I’ve not been able to use it a lot as the weather here has taken a real turn for the worst, either icy or stormy but next season have some great rides planned around the Vales of York and Evesham.

Re: Affix hub; specifications and internal details
Well , the one I had my eye on is awaiting my collection. New in box. Just trying to decide on a rim.
Re: Affix hub; specifications and internal details
Alright, I am being lazy. Before I look for a battery for my verniers, does anyone have the hub dimensions for the Affix? Need them for the spoke calculation websites.
Moon on a stick request I know.

Of course re-reading Bruceys first post might help me!

Bit of an attic clear out resulted in me finding some old cycle mags etc. It was the Fixed free device as shown earlier in this thread that I was thinking about originally in my other post. Need one of those now. Just awaiting delivery of a 725 steel frame from Ribble with track ends for the Affix wheel to go into.
Re: Affix hub; specifications and internal details
How much are you prepared to pay for a new unused one?
Re: Affix hub; specifications and internal details
hmmm. Why do people tempt me? No idea at the moment.
Re: Affix hub; specifications and internal details
Have a think on, it took me about 10 years to source mine and it was such a palaver that I bought three. One went as a gift to my wheel building friend, one is on my Fixed (shown on this thread) and is as good as I thought it would be. The spare is a nice ornament

Fix Free Drive Instructions
(Could be handy for anyone that comes across a set at a jumble etc)

what sort of frame are you going for? interested to see what clearances are available in the market now in such frames.mattsccm wrote: 24 Mar 2026, 8:32am Bit of an attic clear out resulted in me finding some old cycle mags etc. It was the Fixed free device as shown earlier in this thread that I was thinking about originally in my other post. Affix hubs are , to me, just 'okay.' I come from a background of riding fixed both on the boards and the road for both commuting and some TTs BITD. I like the solidity of a well set up and lubricated chain/chainline on a fixed gear bike. The Affix hub is a bit middling when in fixed mode as there is , naturally, a little built in movement / 'lash' given the internals of the hub. It works but it doesn't feel great and lacks that perfect acceleration, smoothness and silence. Initially i did swap from fixed to freewheel when using it but soon the bike was left in freewheel only mode for late evening winter commutes when fatigue was sometimes an issue. would be interested to know other people's thoughts on the hub in use.
ps the track nuts corrode furiously on these hubs so get some anti -rust stuff on them from the off
Re: Affix hub; specifications and internal details
The frame is a Ribble Urban, bought purely because it was cheap from the Ribble outlet, has track ends looks fairly traditional and looked to take a decent gravel tyre. Not sure how big as still awaiting the wheel but 35/40 looks easily possible. it came with a fork but that's hefty so it will have a carbon Cotic fork that's kicking around. That has disc and canti mounts and I am playing with running both as I like two levers anyway and when running the Affix in freewheel mode I'll have a back up brake should one cable snap
. Carbon MTB single ring crankset.
Other fixed wheelers in the shed are more normal. There's a prewar Dawes with 700c wheels and CX tyres but looks its age, a 26" wheeled steel Raleigh MTB from the late 80's that has a steel Cotic disc fork in it with the disc on the right. 700c wheels. That has a White Industries eccentric fixed and free wheel hub. 40mm gravel tyre and finally a stupidly light handmade steel road bike with another WI hub set up as a hill climb bike. Might strip that frame and bung it all on a Chinerello carbon road frame that's worth nowt nowadays.

Re: Affix hub; specifications and internal details
had a quick look at that ribble frame. seems to be begging for some mudguard fixing points on the frame. a bit of a shame that. pratical frames with track ends are not as available as they once were.
