BST ends Sunday-safety factors

Post by mumbojumbo »

As clocks alter will it be safer to ride or will it be more hazardous?I think it will be safer on whole.

Assuming you reach your decision because of a different light level at different times of day I don’t subscribe to it. People who want lighter evenings forget about those who want lighter mornings and vice versa.
No matter what you do to the clocks there is only ever so much winter daylight it can’t be increased. We all have to live with it.

IIRC it’s less safe for the week after both changes...
Completely pointless exercise nowadays. The farmers still don’t get enough daylight to do their milking, so what’s the benefit to whom?
A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.

Only chatting about this the other day.
Daylight Saving Time was invented during the First World War.

This day and age, it's pointless.
Move it by half an hour for UK, and forget it.

I first miked a cow in 1962 and every Byre or parlour I’ve been in since then has had artificial light. It can be nothing to do with milking can it?

I heard it was something to do with Scottish farmers but that could be English propaganda.

A former Premier of Queensland was of the opinion that "the extra sunlight" would fade peoples curtains and Queensland has never adopted daylight saving which means that in Summer they are an hour different to their neighbouring states, New South Wales and Victoria.
Western Australia also never adopted it so in Summer instead of there being a two hour difference from the Eastern States there are three which reduces the time window for business phone call.

Hours of daylight are not controlled by the clock. They happen anyway. Part of a spinning earth. We can control the hours of our own daylight simply. We don't get an extra hour of daylight because of a clock change. That is there anyway - for a short time at least

Of course, we have to be at work or wherever at fixed times which affects things. Crazy and artificial.

And I remember watching the sunrise from my classroom window at 9:30 am.

Short-term benefit is more sleep Saturday night
I had an early morning appointment in October, it was moved to November, so I can cycle there in daylight, +1

But there will be someone with an afternoon appointment who now can’t.

I used to start wearing a vest in October clock change and stop in the Spring change.

Maybe after a while the sun caught on and goes with my clothing habits. Nice to think I can influence daylight hours.
