Fell off today

There's leaf blower man who blows the leaves off a straight stretch of path, outside his rather large spread, I use on my journey to work but any time I've seen him out the leaves instantly get blown back onto the path with every passing car -- it's that look of despair when he sees a large lorry approaching at speed that I somehow find very funny. The war on leaves continues.

Glad you and bike are not more seriously damaged. It happens, and when it does it's useful to think about the why, but I don't think anyone could or would ride in a way that eliminates the possibility, so don't blame yourself.

It is a bigger risk with a motorcycle because you don't have the benefit of feeling slippage through the cranks.

I had a front wheel go and slid down the road that was wet and compounded by a thick cow slurry from cows being moved on the road. Got home with road rash and stinking kit. The dog thought I smelt wonderful so I took my shoes off and stood in the shower. Now I am really cautious on bends and expect the unexpected but still enjoy winter rides.

So did my son -- too wide - on the marbles - and out through the hedge -- CBR not too bad apart from a new fairing, belly pan, screen one set of side panels, new mirrors, indicators, straightened the brake pedal -- new clutch lever -- his gravel rash took longer to heal than I took to fix the bike.

Here is a picture of the corner in question earlier today with two nice lines of fuel/oil down the centre of each lane, if you look carefully.

Spilled fuel going through a roundabout almost got me when riding a motorbike -- front wheel let go but gripped again as I hauled the bike up sending it off line -- I hit the corner of the kerb at the other side of the roundabout with both wheels.

Yesterday’s ride was on an often-used hilly circuit. On a junction I noticed a oil trail heading down the wet road that I was taking. Just as well it was visible because within a hundred yards it heads steeply downhill on a clear, bendy but, nontheless, fast section. I took it easy for the next couple of miles and guessed correctly that the trail would lead into the scrapyard I subsequently passed.

Near me a local bakery ran a large fleet of lorries and had their own diesel pumps on site.
Drivers filled their own tanks and the pump's cut off didn't work. The result was the tanks being overfilled or fuel caps not properly fitted, the fuel would spill out on the first roundabout. You could smell the diesel as you got close to the roundabout.
I had a chum who worked there and he said the place was swimming in diesel. This was in the 70's so better pumps an dearer fuel has put an end to this sort of thing.

I have had numerous incidents with spilt diesel and it is an absolute menace. IME it'll be the same vehicles doing the same thing every single day and if so you need to get the police involved.

Out of interest, can you report such things to Highways? (as a road hazard to vehicles legally using the roads). Also I assume the Police could do little about finding the culprit but might they close the road (I know a Police Officer (friend) and once before he called Highways and told them to immediately repair a dangerous pothole or he'd be closing the road ... and after a bit of "debate" they did).
