I have never left a bike anywhere that it could be stolen.
I suppose having my bike at YHAs in their lockups could have been vulnerable, but nowhere else.

Please amend the poll: I had a wheel stolen only so I had to walk home
'Half/part of a cycle stolen?'
Bet that is common enough :?

And once someone who I knew who, deflated my tyres, for fun

I knew a man who, after a office Christmas party rode home and only on getting there did he find that a colleague had filled his panniers with bricks.

None. The nearest I came was as a schoolboy 50 years ago when I left my roadster bike locked outside our house while I went to a nearby shop for my mother. As I returned I saw somebody lift it up to take it away, realise it had flat tyre and toss it back against the wall.

As a solo tourist I suppose I am vulnerable, but it has yet to happen. Crossed fingers.

I’ve never had a bike stolen and for years never had a lock. I bought one when I stopped in an area heading to the old Ayr hostel. :D
Now I have a lock I rarely use it in my own area but I can still recall my heart beating fast a number of years ago. I parked it up in Garstang and went a wandering. On my return it wasn’t there  Put brain into gear and realised that wasn’t where I’d left it.
Whatever I am, wherever I am, this is me. This is my life

About fifty five years of cycling and I have had no bikes, or bits of bikes, stolen so far.

I've had 3 bikes stolen throughout my lifetime.

First was a Puch Toledo yellow road bike (first bike I bought myself). My old man was using it at the time for his commute and it was stolen from outside his house. I was at sea at the time and had had good use out of it so was not too worried. Back in the eighties

Second was a Specialized MTB (£300 and fairly basic spec). Some toerag ran up my driveway and scarpered off with it. I usually locked it but forgot this time. Probably 2009

Third was my daughters Trek Navigator which I bought for £95 from a fellow in Fort William. Pretty much the same as (2), some scroat ran up my drive and scarpered off with it. Same year 2009 but I blame the daughter for this one.

All good since, although someone once said it was every bikes destiny to get nicked. So I won't hold my breath!

A JRJ (Bob Jackson) stolen when I was in my 20s, nearly half a century ago. It still hurts.

Not yet. I've fretted most at continental campsites where, close to the tent, there's been nothing to attach the bike to, or only a young tree that wouldn't withstand a bowsaw for five minutes.

Nothing to say it wouldn't happen here of course, but I haven't cycle camped here since l was a teenager and it's one thing to have your bike nicked in the Peak District, another when you're halfway down Gascony.
