Boris's Brain is missing
Re: Boris's Brain is missing
Thank you for your letter of July 2021 to the previous Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster (CDL), relating to Dominic Cummings’ business activities after leaving Crown employment. The Cabinet Office has noted the advice received from the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments and I am replying as the Minister with policy responsibility for the Business Appointment Rules.
I apologise for the length of time it has taken to reply to you on this issue. The delay was caused - in part - by the manner in which the issues outlined in your letter served to highlight some of the challenges inherent in administering the Business Appointment Rules effectively. We have therefore considered this matter in the context of wider reform to the Rules which we had hoped to be in a position to announce prior to now. My assessment is that Mr Cummings, in this and other matters, did not follow the rules correctly. However, this case has also highlighted that once ACOBA has decided not to rule on an application, there is no mechanism for an individual to seek to remedy that breach in good faith. In that light, I agree with you that the review of business appointment rules needs to be accelerated and completed.

Longer he clings on, the longer the story perpetuates, the more opportunity other parties have to repeat and emphasise the sleaze, the more other ministers failures are repeated (Ms Patel's bullying was added to the story on tonight's C4 news) - more damage to Conservatives.
Had he immediately resigned it stops the story in it's tracks but staying increases analysis (even Johnson and Acuri was raised on this evening's news).
And if Hancock went he'd only be replaced by other useless fool to take the hits from Johnson's failings, with all sorts of contacts in the private healthcare sector, etc.

From today's Select Committee report:reohn2 wrote: ↑3 Jul 2022, 7:36pmOne need look no further than Nadine Dorries to see Johnson appoints absolute idiots to ministerial posts so long as they're johnson sychophants :Psamathe wrote: ↑3 Jul 2022, 7:28pm With regard to the Pincher appointment, Johnson has yet again made himself look like a fool. Claiming he didn't know the individual's reputation is the daft thing that shows his incapability.
With so many MPs now saying "if Johnson didn't know his [Pincher's] reputation then he [Johnson] was the only person in Westminster not knowing". So Johnson either Johnson was appointing inappropraite people without inquiring into their suitability or he is (yet again) lying. Either option shows Johnson unsuited to his office. Really makes one question how so many Conservative MPs still support him rather than the interest of the country (and the interest of their own party).
Our conclusion
9. We are disappointed with Ms Dorries reluctance to engage with the Committee on this matter. Ms Dorries at first refused to reconsider her claims and her subsequent clarifications introduce more confusion than they resolve.
In the Committee she talks about meeting boys in a flat (which matches Channel 4’s investigation) who later turned out to be actors. Her clarification talks about a homeless young men section.
In the Committee she said that she saw a pharmacist who prepared food and who was also an actor. In her clarification, that pharmacist was the mother of one of the boys.
In the Committee she said that the parents of one of the boys contacted her and came to have lunch to tell her the boys were in acting school. In her clarification, the mother, who was also the pharmacist, arranged for her son to come to the House for a tour and lunch and it was he who told her about being an actor.
We do not find either the original claims, or the clarifications to be credible and have seen no corroboration of her claims that Channel 4 and Love Productions used actors in a reality television show. In contrast, the detailed investigation carried out by Channel 4 gives us confidence that her claims are groundless. We are concerned Ms Dorries appears to have taken an opportunity, under the protection of privilege, to traduce the reputation of Channel 4.
Had Ms Dorries remained Secretary of State, driving a policy of selling the channel, we may have sought a referral to the Privileges Committee but, as her claims have not inhibited the work of the Committee and she no longer has a position of power over the future of Channel 4, we are, instead, publishing this Report to enable the House, and its Members, to draw their own conclusions.

Dull as Dorries lives in some strange parallel universe - but that doesn't mean she doesn't have influence.

Re: Boris's Brain is missing
Extraordinary that his return is even being contemplated.
One: he's still under investigation by the standards committee.
Two: it's only some months since a majority of Tory MPs decided they must sack him. He hasn't changed.
Three: the 'big things' that his fans insist he 'got right' are a dangerous fiction. Brexit, Covid and Levelling Up can all be scrutinised by examing a ton of data in the public domain and far from being successes, turn out to be dramatically problematic for the country's economy & health as well as the future of the Union. It's hard to imagine a worse performance.
Why it is that people are so prepared to ignore facts, data and scrutiny is beyond me.

Because he seems like the sort of bloke who’d be good company in the pub or at dinner, and because he exudes optimism and makes things feel good (usually by pretending serious problems don’t exist). Why it is that people are so prepared to ignore facts, data and scrutiny is beyond me.
Which is not an attempt at humour on my part, I honestly believe that is why people fall for all his old tosh, and forgive his sins far too readily.
Oh, and he’s posh, which plays well in a country where people across the spectrum still haven’t got it out of their heads that being led by posh people is the natural order of things.

Re: Boris's Brain is missing
I was born, educated ( what little there was of it) and earned a living in England. I have a daughter and two grandchildren living there but every day that passes I become more grateful that I no longer live there.
France has its problems, strikes and fuel shortages etc, but nothing like the self inflicted chaos I see going on in the UK.
I'm sure a few forum members will accuse me of being ant-British but the complete opposite is the case.
I try to stand up for the UK but I've run out of excuses.
