Re: Boris's Brain is missing
I simply cannot understand why the electorate is happy to stand by and let the neoliberals asset-strip our country and turn us all into unprotesting cash cows, at the same time as suffering the truly dreadful consequences of their actions. Surely even to the dumbest of voters, it must be obvious that the place is falling apart!
As I've said before, what we need are websites that show, in all sorts of clear and plain ways, exactly what's happening... the awful truth of the degeneration. They don't have to be like the disengenuous social media sources that Banks/Cummings et al used to such good effect back in '15/16, but instead just tell it like it is, in picture and spreadsheet formats. I'm not aware of any of these, other than the ones available to journalists, which aren't really suitable for ordinary folk.
There's an old socialist motto - "If there's one thing the Tory party is frightened of, it's a working-class kid with a book". Small wonder then, that England's state schools are so run down and underfunded.

Boris sees HMQ and hands in his resignation.
Some time later, Truss sees HMQ and is asked to become PM and form a government.
Now, just say the Boris has resigned, and Truss drops down dead BEFORE she sees HMQ.
What happens then?
No PM and no government!

And the UK electorate never learn the lessons,it would be laughable were it not so bloody tragic!pliptrot wrote: ↑6 Sep 2022, 1:13pmThe Tory party has always done this. They get elected on the basis they are good with the economy. They are -evidently and obviously-not. Thatcher and her acolytes privatised everything they could - billions paid in dividends have been diverted from the public coffers starving the privatised industries of investment. The rail subsidies paid out are now greater (not including the effects of the Covid pandemic) than the total cost of running BR when in public hands. And it goes on. The last chancellor to run a surplus was Roy Jenkins - a Labour chancellor. Tory policies since 2010 have increased the speed of the decline of The UK. If Truss means what she says (she does not have a good record in this respect) the UK economy will be driven off a cliff. Our borrowing now stand at 100% of GDP, and she is proposing more...........Debs wrote: ↑6 Sep 2022, 11:26am It's also kicking the can down the road for the next administration to struggle with, and another can of many kicked cans that this Brexit-Tory Cabal will dodge by losing the next election, plus they will then blame the next administration (Labour) for all the problems that Boris and Co caused in the first place.
We get what we deserve,a bunch of selfseeking rich morons running the country into the ground.....

Presumably he was referring to a baton (or torch) being passed in a relay, whereas it's not customary (though has happened) for one PM to pass it (either literally or figuratively) to the next.Jdsk wrote: ↑6 Sep 2022, 9:26am "In only a couple of hours I will be in Balmoral to see Her Majesty the Queen and the torch will finally be passed to a new Conservative leader.

OK, so hardly "changing the rules", but hey, it's Boris we're talking about.

Yes, I got the baton bit.DaveReading wrote: ↑6 Sep 2022, 2:38pmPresumably he was referring to a baton (or torch) being passed in a relay, whereas it's not customary (though has happened) for one PM to pass it (either literally or figuratively) to the next.Jdsk wrote: ↑6 Sep 2022, 9:26am "In only a couple of hours I will be in Balmoral to see Her Majesty the Queen and the torch will finally be passed to a new Conservative leader.

But not "They changed the rules... ". Who's They and which rules?
I'm expecting some people to believe that he was wrongfully removed, and wondered what justification would be used in support.
The best theory that I've seen so far is the Ministers resigning after the vote of confidence.

PS: The usual Trump analogy is available.

There seems to have been wall-to-wall television coverage of Boris Johnson and Liz Truss travelling separately at no expense spared over much of the length of the realm for the briefest of ceremonies, which might just as well have been performed remotely. Some people seem to blame the queen for this egregious extravagance but imo it shows the misplaced self-importance of so many party politicians, irrespective of party allegiance

It's communications so each pair was responsible for agreeing the medium to be used.
The Head of State was the senior party so should have informed each of the other parties that video was fine by her.
And the net effect of doing it this way was unnecessary pollution and wasted public money.

Re: Boris's Brain is missing
I'm out of the loop so I don't know what representations were made or by whom but I find it hard to believe that HM was desperate to add another notch to her record of prime ministers received.
Perhaps the news media will examine this in a bit more detail when they are looking for a different angle.
