"How much better, from a political perspective, if Johnson had simply turned up to tell the truth to a committee of his fellow members of parliament – instead of this legalistic arms race."
He can easily afford the legality with the quarter million pounds worth of legal aid funding plundered from the UK tax payer.

With legal aid rapidly becoming a memory it remains one law for them and one for us,
or socialism for the rich and a free enterprised kick in the nuts for everyone else.
It it isn't Legal Aid in the normal sense. And it isn't very clear why it is being paid or who made the decision.

Note that question time audiences are picked to represent previous voting behaviours

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articl ... -questions
People apply to be in the audience for Question Time via the website and by phone and producers get in touch to ask questions on their previous voting record and future voting intentions, whether they have party political membership and also how they voted in the EU Referendum.
I have heard that they aim to represent the state of the previous election in an area, but they also still ask about a certain advisory referendum.

The presenter said [before they asked for responses] the survey was not scientific, but more people at the Staffordshire venue had voted Conservative than for any other party.
Not a single person thought he had told the truth, and only one thought there was a way back... though rather in the way that it's hard to get rid of dog mess that's been trodden into a blanket.
A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.
There are two kinds of people in this world: those can extrapolate from incomplete data.

yep - i think folk see through a liar eventually.

though of course won't always admit.

I don't think he's coming back in any senior political role, though won't bother him and the wife much.

other theatres are available.

I heard one of his supporters on Today complaining that throwing Boris out of politics would 'deprive him of his livelihood'!
It's the same the whole world over
It's the poor what gets the blame
It's the rich what gets the pleasure
Isn't it a blooming shame?

I think most people saw through him a long time ago*, but thought him useful/charming/a bit of a character/just Boris.

That's what's most alarming :?

*After all he's been a proven liar for decades, both in journalism and politics

He should, as he's a dangerous person. Made me laugh, deprived of his income! This was the same PM they said was capable of earning millions outside of politics.
In British politics I've never seen the like of such a self seeking, lying ex PM.
All politics can massage the facts but Boris insists black is white.
Since 2010 we've seen the Tories making a mess of everything they touched, including their handling of Covid.

Actually I realise I'm wrong, they made their rich mates even richer!

They've made their rich mates richer at the expense of the rest of us,especially the poorest,Sunak is no better!

The country has gone to the dogs under these terrible people's control and all with the electorate's blessing,an electorate who without photo ID at the next GE will be deprived of their right to vote.

Johnson is the worst of the worst but the other four PM's have been no better, not as blatant granted but look at their track record in government,a who's who of failure!

".....an electorate who without photo ID at the next GE will be deprived of their right to vote."

Step 1 in disenfranchisement of large swathes of the population. Unable to contribute to GDP, and "growth" because of disability? Not a property owner? Then not a stake-holder in UK.com, no right to a vote in the company management.

Correct, only those worthy to vote will be allowed to vote "all animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others"......

Oh! Whilst I remember pigs in troughs=Kwartang,Handcock, knight of the realm Sir Graham Brady.... ...Led by Donkeys or should that be pigs, just about sums it up doesn't it?

We call upon the Government to hold a Public Inquiry into the impact of Brexit

The benefits that were promised if the UK exited the European Union have not been delivered, so we call upon the Government to hold a Public Inquiry to assess the impact that Brexit has had on this country and its citizens.
Regardless as to which way you voted (or didn't vote) please sign this petition!

https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/628226
It is time that the people of this country were told the truth about Brexit, good or bad. We deserve to know how Brexit is impacting on trade, the economy, opportunities for young people and how it has affected the rights of individuals. This can only be done by an independent Public Inquiry, free from ideology and the opinions of vested interests.

Which reminds me of the brilliant Bonzo/Neil Innes song, "No Matter Who You Vote For, The Government Always Gets In".

"No Matter Who You Vote For, The Government Always Gets In"

From the Anarchists' posters of the '60s (and possibly earlier), "Whoever you voted for, the Government got in."
