he was making up some crim's excuse about not being able to turn his phone on in case it exploded. Well, in case some virus or whatever caused the entire government computer system to crash or be compromised.

Most forensic investigators would point out that the risk is reduced if not nullified by turning the phone on only inside a Faraday cage laboratory with no wifi etc. Then at worst, the virus could only delete or scramble anything on the phone, not phone home in Russia. If it was the phone belonging to some 18 year old hacker with autism and ADHD and social phobia, they would have deconstructed it by now looking for any evidence.

When authorities say they can't do X Y or Z they really mean, they can't be bothered to. (I'm Lord Lucan by the way in the Costa Del Sol)

What a laughing stock we are as a country to allow a disgraced former leader appoint such a risible individual as a legislator for life. Makes me ashamed to be British. Democracy? I don't think so.

The destructive force of exceptionalism. Those Enlightenment thinkers might just have been onto something.

PS: I've just seen an alternative theory... Sunak refused Dorries' elevation, and the unilateral resignation (insert archaic references to the Chiltern Hundreds according to taste) initiates a revengeful by-election...

I wondered if the report from the Privileges Committee was the "something significant" to which Dorries referred.

Any suggestions for an appropriate honour?

Tories mullered. Twice.

Some might say deservedly, I couldn't possibly comment

Wow. Didn't expect that. Graceless as ever.

Good riddance, I only wish I believed we will never hear any more from the lying charlatan.

Just looking for the full statement... there's an ominous:

Unless you are prepared to stump up shootloads of cash I expect you will be denied the privilege.

There's a win then.
