Why didn't someone ask him, did any of the other companies ask for tax breaks?
And is the UK Government such a "delegation free zone" that the PM is the best person for potential suppliers to talk to about potentially developing sophisticated complex NHS equipment ...

I'd have hoped there would be other more appropriate people for Dyson to discuss the issues with e.g. HMRC about tax law, NHS about technical requirements, etc. so other than "donations to Conservative Party" where does Johnson fit in to the critical path?

And how has the NHS managed to purchase ventilators in the past or does Johnson have to get involved in every bit of new NHS kit?

So now, it seems, Boris denies having made a remark about "bodies piled high"? Well, to reiterate a famous quote, "he would, wouldn't he".

Words fail me....

"Lex Greensill had a desk and a security pass to gain access to the prime minister’s offices, senior civil servants told MPs. But officials disclosed on Monday that he was neither a civil servant nor a special adviser and they could find no contracts for Greensill’s three years in Whitehall.

"Appearing before the public administration and constitutional affairs committee on Monday, Simon Case, the cabinet secretary, said he was surprised and puzzled by the lack of paperwork."

Johnson reminds me of Hilaire Belloc's Matilda.
Matilda told such Dreadful Lies,
It made one Gasp and Stretch one’s Eyes;
Her Aunt, who, from her Earliest Youth,
Had kept a Strict Regard for Truth,
Attempted to believe Matilda:
The effort very nearly killed her,....

For every time She shouted "Fire!"
They only answered "Little Liar!"
And therefore when her Aunt returned,
Matilda, and the House, were burned.
Nobody believes him any more.
It's the same the whole world over
It's the poor what gets the blame
It's the rich what gets the pleasure
Isn't it a blooming shame?

I learnt the entire poem by heart when I was at primary school!

I'm also reminded of the classic 1963 movie Billy Liar. Who else remembers it? Any chance we could pack BoJo off to 'Ambrosia' - on a one-way ticket of course....

I saw his denial on TV News this evening and he looked "uncomfortable". I claim no special abilities for detecting when somebody is lying but he came across and lying (maybe coloured by his track record in this regard). Or maybe there have just been so many lies that the "how do you tell when a politician is lying" joke has become truth in Johnson's case.

(Denial over his "let the bodies pile high" comment)

Of course Johnson aimed higher than ruler of Ambrosia, he wanted to be King of the World!

I wonder if we could have guessed that some people were self serving charlatans.

Amongst many of my UK friends I was the odd one out in disliking Boris, not just because he was in charge when the UK finally left the EU. General comment was, 'I like him and, a bit of a wag'.
I read he is still popular on the doorstep and the Tories will keep him as leader until this changes.
His biggest threat is Cummings, what 'dirt' has he on Johnson yet to be disclosed.
Until the party thinks the Tory voters are losing their love of Boris they will stick by him no matter what.
Respectability and ethics have long gone from the Conservative party.
It wasn't always like this. :(

The problem with Cummings is that he's damaged goods, too, after the C19 affair, so unless he has something which in itself is sufficient to result in his departure, then all he can do is wound.

Having referred above to a 1963 movie, I'm now reminded of another notable event of 1963. What a pity there's no footage of John Profumo's denial, uttered on the floor of the House, of his affair with Christine Keeler. And his subsequent admission that he'd lied, and his resignation, and all that followed. I guess he must have looked 'uncomfortable' on both occasions. And I guess many of his fellow MPs saw through his initial lie.

Of course this latest affair isn't actually about Boris's philandering. But it might well have been - he's no stranger to that sort of behaviour!

Or maybe it’s Gove and Murdoch. The colour Gove took on when lying to defend BJ was very telling.

Boris philandering? That is surely an "inverted pyramid of piffle."
It should not be forgotten that he is not short of enemies on his own side of the House.
