This is an absolutely fantastic route, was my favourite holiday ever. I did it a few years ago and a couple of weeks later than the organised rally, at the back end of September by which time it had cooled down to a nicer temperature for me anyway.
As for an ideal trip now I'd like to tour any of the following; South Korea, Japan, up to Nordkapp, the huge mountainous national parks in the States to name just a few. Also Russia

Danube .... cycle path .... there and back .... with a companion .... lightweight camping, Basha-sleeping bag-groundsheet, May to July ..... August to October ....
Pan Celtic, short route ..
The last 2 things thing on my bucket list ......

Chances of either happening are ....V-slim.

Ha ha, I've never looked up stuff about cycling in Japan before, but a few hours since posting my interest on this thread, up pops on my Facebook 'Japan cycling navigator' as a suggested group.

Gregoryoftours. We drove through Dinali NP in Alaska and the roads are great for cycling but there were lots of black bear and grizzly. Fantastic to watch but not sure i could outsprint one. If you go always travel with a much slower cyclist . The area is fantastic and well worth a visit but distances between habitations is massive.

I've toured in Japan a few times, 5+ months in all. Interesting place and one that has grown on me. It was meant to be my first destination for this year's winter cycling, but something got in the way.

There isn't much info on touring in Japan as not many Japanese or foreigners do it.

I did a little write up on it after my first trip. A bit dated, but most info is still valid although I think I like Japan more now than I did then. viewtopic.php?f=16&t=92289&p=842086&hilit=Japan#p842086

I have cycled from Seville 3 times and loved every moment ....good weather....cheap food....cheap hostels if you have the pilgrim passport and mostly quiet tracks/ roads .
I was planning to drive down to Salamanca or Santiago and catch a bus to Cadiz maybe March or April 2021 as no flights are yet available . This could change at any moment i suppose but i just feel a bit desperate to do something , so planning is the next best thing .

This!

Why some Japanese pensioners want to go to jail
31 January 2019 Stories
Japanese prisoner looking through bars
Japan is in the grip of an elderly crime wave - the proportion of crimes committed by people over the age of 65 has been steadily increasing for 20 years. The BBC's Ed Butler asks why.

At a halfway house in Hiroshima - for criminals who are being released from jail back into the community - 69-year-old Toshio Takata tells me he broke the law because he was poor. He wanted somewhere to live free of charge, even if it was behind bars.

"I reached pension age and then I ran out of money. So it occurred to me - perhaps I could live for free if I lived in jail," he says.

"So I took a bicycle and rode it to the police station and told the guy there: 'Look, I took this.'"

With a bit of luck you'll get mugged by a lady Japanese pensioner. What an experience to tell your kids.
