Whyte Glencoe - go tubeless or not?

Post by beardo »

I recently bought a Glencoe, primarily for road riding, but taking in the odd bridleway as well. The bike has tubeless-ready 650b wheels with WTB rims and WTB Horizon tyres. I'm happy with the bike as is, but also curious about going tubeless. Is it worthwhile?

I should get fewer punctures but are there any other benefits on the road with these tyres? Improved ride or roadholding? On the flip side it seems I might spend a bit more more time on tyre maintenance, checking the sealant every few months and perhaps topping up the air more frequently. So I'm undecided, but tending towards keeping the tubes for now. If it works don't fix it...

Does anyone else run tubeless 650b tyres on the road and have any insights?

In your position I’d stick with tubes. Road tubeless largely seems like a solution looking for a problem IMO. If I was getting lots of punctures or pinch flats (at my preferred tyre pressures) then I might consider going tubeless.

Plenty more prior posts on "tubeless" tyres on this FORUM . . . .

Use the "Advanced" seach { Click the cog alongside the Search box }.

"Tubeless" . . . . and select "top-titles ONLY" ( to avoid getting overwhelmed ).

Yes, I did search and read. Aware of the advantages for off road, just wondered if anyone has any specific 650b road wisdom.

I think I will leave things as they are.
