Looking at this the other way round, is there anybody who goes on motoring/ pistonhead etc forums who's seen any feedback eg about receiving such warning letters? That might indicate something about the frequency with which they are used and the effect on recipients.

I wonder if there is any crossover between car fan sites and CTC. I own a car but I wouldn’t call myself a fan. I wish I didn’t need one at all but doing without would lead to grief from Madame Nez

Yes, lots of people in this forum interested in cars, and own unusual cars, and derive pleasure from them.
And lots of keen cyclists in my car club.

I'm referring to people who go online to discuss and research their experiences. ie Rather like the way somebody on the receiving end of police action for pavement cycling might come on here. The replies are often quite revealing.
Helmet cameras etc have been in use quite a while now and are quite widespread. Their growth seems to have been in inverse proportion to the levels of traffic enforcement. One of the early milestones was the widely-quoted comment by Suzette Davenport at the All-party cycling charade, which low-ranking decisionmakers in some forces used as a blanket excuse for no action : see atlas_shrugged above. I wonder if that has changed.

Road.cc has a place called 'near miss of the day' where you can post your vids. It's up to day 540+ now.
https://road.cc/content/news/e-day-538- ... era-280797We used to use helmet/chest cams for Mountain biking to record DH runs etc.I've never bothered on the road.TBH looking at some of the vids in the above link I'd be posting one just about every time I ride

Some of them are extremely close but some, sadly, fall into every day occurrence
The sticker they offer to announce to drivers that your bike is fitted with a camera(s) would be like a red rag to a Bull in many cases I thnk.
I got a 'free' dash cam with my car insurance a couple of years ago and never bothered fitting it.I think I've just got used to how it is on UK roads.

I regret I seem to have confused this thread with another where I posted this the other day
viewtopic.php?p=1576666#p1576666I've been wrongly assuming recent posts on here were made in the light of that

Two threads merged, apparently.

To borrow from Ken Wolstenholme "They are now." It does make more sense.

It used to include a note that as a witness you would here nothing more, and also refer to the action in the past tense:
I actually got a slightly out of template response from A&S for my last submission as I'd dropped a query into the box on whether it was required to fill the form once per vehicle (in the case of successive close passes in one vid), apparently block submissions are ok for them.
In terms of the proportions of action, I did find one post from 2019 saying in the first half of that year it was approx 40% letter, 40% NIP & 20% no action. There was a more recent update at the end of last year but I can't find it now, fairly sure it was similar, if not higher. i.e. at least half of the times they say action was taken it was intention to prosecute.

Standard copy n paste email from A&S Police for this but the company acted within a week and the driver is no longer a driver for the company.

There are a couple of interesting on-line descriptions of the Avon & Somerset procedures, written in conjunction with the force. They include links to samples of warning letters sent to miscreants:

"Public back online system to catch dangerous drivers in Scotland":
https://www.cyclinguk.org/press-release ... s-scotland
"59% of Scottish adults support the introduction of an online system that allows the public to upload footage of dangerous driving on Scottish roads, while just 17% oppose it, a YouGov poll has found"
And from the Scottish Greens:
"Transport Scotland will work with Police Scotland to develop a one year pilot project to develop an online reporting system enabling anyone to upload camera footage of dangerous driving."

From what I’ve seen from those who have cameras on bike. The response very much depends on which police force. Some seem very pro active whilst others are less enthusiastic.
Best advice I have seen. If you intend to submit your footage to police. Don’t share it online until the outcome is known.

Footage from Mrs Syd’s rear camera is currently in the hands of the police and solicitors following her recently being hit from behind by a driver.
It’s already had results with the driver’s insurance company effectively asking how much it’s going to cost to make the problem go away and the police reporting the driver for careless driving.
