Alfine 11 gear hub. Brakes compatibily

Post by drodrig »

Hi,

I got my new bike with the Alfine 11 hub. I am happy with it, but there is a but:

The shifter levers is "hidden" by the breaks (Deore M4100); it blocks my finger and I can't reach comfortably the lever.

The problem is the relative position to each other. The clamps are already touching. So the back lever can't stick out more.

I saw there is another system for clamps. The I-spec II with the clamp in the outer side. Maybe this would let the indicator go under.

What brake model do you have with the Alfine 11 shifter?

thanks
regards,

Not sure on those exact ones - but Shimano levers normally have a little screw just on the inside of the lever which allows you to adjust the reach to the lever, in fact when you bleed them you should let the lever right out and then dial it back in. If its a new bike get the bike shop to do it, not sure it as it might compress the system slightly and you could i guess get pad rubbing.

Also both shifter and lever on seperate clamps so they can be moved around a bit to suit.

NB - Not seen Hydraulics Levers with that style clamp - i.e. you don't need to take the grip off to get them on and off - might look out for a pair.

those brake levers have clamps that are offset inboard of where they usually are so that there is enough room for the 'special shifter' which bolts onto that brake lever, a bit like this;

If you had a more conventional brake lever (where the grip butts up against the lever clamp) the alfine shifter would work better.

I've been checking on a big bike webshop and filtering by Alfine 11 gear hub. Then I checked the brakes. They all have the clamps at the end.

This is a mistake from the manufacturer. I have asked them about it. Let's see what they say
