Plate rack/cooling tray on the kitchen table!

Just come back in from collecting logs ......... that's another story of course!
Just thinking whilst I was out why 1979 rang a bell.

Marjorie Dawes belongs to Daughter2, and she is a 1979 baby.
Coincidence eh?

No date marks on the rear mech though...

The date will be in code form on the back of the RD; two letters, in YM format. 1979 is 'V' so if the RD is a 1979 model then the code will be 'V-something'.

Hub is marked 35 79 which means week 35 in 1979. By the time the hub had gone from France to the Dawes factory and then from stock into a bike, they would have been making '1980' models in the Dawes factory (starting about October 1979). So the bike would have been '1980' specification; earliest the bike could have been sold would have been late 1979, but it is also quite likely it was bought new in 1980.

cheers

All that's written on the back, is what you can see here.

'TC' could be march 1977?

BTW I have copied the hub photo into this thread

https://forum.cyclinguk.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=128616

wk35 would I think have been the first week back at work after 'les vacances' (aug 27th to sept 2nd 1979, according to t'interweb). I have not seen a wk35 hub before.

cheers

Goodness knows.
You're the expert!

I think it looks like a trade mark or something. The circle round it suggests that to me rather than being a date stamp, but what do I know!

The front hub has exactly the same numbers - 35 79.

IIRC SunTour date marks were in circles for a fair while; here is another V-luxe mech;

from 1980.

Is it worth my while cleaning and servicing them?

I've nothing much do over the next week or so.

monetary value is not enormous, but I think they are quite nice hubs in many ways. All in the eye of the beholder of course.
