I'm off to the Isle of Man later this summer to cycle the TT course with my Dad. Can anyone recommend hotels etc in Douglas or any nice places we should see??
Thank you!

Hello! Its Me!
I am a bit rushed tonight, but dont worry some info via a pm on its way to you!
The IOM is ACE for cycling. I do hope the weather will be kind to you. When are you coming over? (promise I wont follow you around)
Are you expecting to stay in Douglas only?? B&B, hotel or self catering?
Like I say, Ill pm you lots of stuff soon. I have in the past put pics on here, but not sure if they are still available for viewing.
Are you thinking of touring, or racing or MTB?

Thanks so much - I was hoping you'd see my begging enquiry
No worries at all about timing - we're looking at September so there's no rush for info.
We're getting the ferry from Liverpool so I think we'll stay in Douglas both nights but if you'd advise otherwise, we're well up for suggestions! Feel free to follow us around on your new bike (I saw another of your posts) but you might get a bit bored as we'll be quite slow!
Looking forward to hearing from you, but please don't feel rushed to get back to me.

I visited the IoM in 2004 and it was excellent for cycling. I cycled to Heysham and took the ferry, then stayed in Laxey, which is some way from the TT course so I did the TT circuit in reverse. That meant I could get the mountain section out of the way first! You might choose to do that if you stay in Douglas.
I just wished I could have stayed longer than a week.

Happy to.
I was just getting the impression that perhaps I spend too long tapping on here. Dont want everyone to get fed up with Manx Cat. Cos, well, I am aware that I do get a bit enthusiastic with my posts.
Beware........ Information overload on its way!

Mary, why would you think you are on here too often? I for one always enjoy your posts - always cheery and upbeat. If you read one of the posts currently on "Tea Shop" you'll see we need positive people.

PS Albert's splendid face always makes me smile too!

Thanks Jan. Albert loves getting fans!
Old Blue Eyes.... Maybe see you at Tynwald on Monday then! Im afraid I have to .... you..... know.....what..... (DRIVE there).
Im helping raise funds for the Air Training Youth group here on the island, so the car will be full of cakes, fudges and choccie truffles to sell. So once again, my kitchen is knee high in flour and sugar.
Will try to get lots of pics of Tynwald for you all on Monday. It seems the Princess Royal is making a visit this year.
My daughter is part of the procession in her Air Corps uniform. (no chance of a nice wave or smile that day - she will be in megga serious mode -

)
Do hope the weather shines for everyone.
(Tynwald is our open air Parliament meeting in celebration of our independence - its a National Holiday for us all)

I always do a lap of the TT course whenever I go over. I think you should do it in the clockwise direction to get the full effect. Start from Douglas and stop for lunch around Sulby (Sulby Glen Hotel is nice), into Ramsey and the 7 mile climb of the mountain (it's only steep for the first couple of miles), then a cup of tea at the Motorcycle Museum at the top, then get ready for the brilliant descent back to Douglas.

The motor cycle museum is now shut down.
Its been closed for a couple of years now. So dont forget to bring water for the mountain, its along way without it!
Sad isnt it, that the IOM is so famous for its motor cycles, and yet the MHKs (our member of Parliament) do not want to spend money on a Motor sport museum. The original one was privately owned and the owner has sold up to retire. (hubby bought a nice Indian though when the lot went under the hammer

)
