Seat Post Clamp 34mm

Post by foxychick »

I need a 34mm seat post clamp and spent hours looking for one online but none available anywhere, anyone know where i could get one or would a 34.9mm do the job?

I'd search Google for seatpost clamps for your brand of bike
It seems that some Scotts and giants use this size. There is a clamp available here:

https://www.giantbikespares.com/Giant-A ... il/3-42545

I wouldn't try a 34.9mm , the size difference is to big to work well without problems.

Edit, to clarify the link above is for a 34mm clamp that is compatible with your bike. If you already have a 34.9 clamp you might as well shim it as suggested, but if you have to buy a new one anyway I would go with one like this that is the right size to start with. You'll likely find a 34.9mm cheaper though so if the cost is an issue you could buy new and shim.

You can also search eBay for 34mm clamp, and then filter category to show sporting goods. I'd probably go for a new one, some of the used ones look a bit tired.

34.9 may work with a suitable shim?

Hi,
The diff will be a nearly 3mm smaller gap on the clamp slot............
A piece of metal shim 0.3-4 mm would help to make sure the clamp is reliable........and safe....

I mean a shim between the clamp and the seat tube; a piece of shim stock, nominal 0.45mm thickness, cut to the same width as the overlap between the clamp and the seat tube, will do.

Coke can is about 0.1mm thickness, (and can be cut using scissors) so four or five layers of that would probably do the trick.

cheers

Thank you for all your replies, went into my local halfords to pick some stuff up and lo and behold they had a 34mm clamp in their spares box so happy days. Just for the record i have tried a 34.9mm seat clamp and it was way too big.
