I would not like to be poking my nose in other peoples affairs but on the other side of the coin.......?

Anyway, Brucey, if you are there and would like some peace then give us a clue, all the best, Simon

Ah, in order to cut through the how GDPR thing... I could write Brucey a quick greetings card, telling him that he is missed, put in in a blank envelope which has a stamp on it and then send it to you inside another envelope with your name on it... when the card reaches you, all you would have to do is address the blank envelope (in which the card has been sealed) and place it back in the post. Bit of an inconvenience for you I'm afraid, hence my next question, would you be prepared to do it?

There is another long-standing poster on here and I raised his absence with the mods.
It all came right though, because he's back. He took a week or two off for whatever reason, I don't know.
No names, no pack-drill.

There are names from the past on here who have vanished without trace too. Some of us - if we think back to the past - would be able to think of them.

Off the top of my head .......
Mrs Tortoise
Asdace ...... changed his name to Rapidfire
Albion Lass
Beep Beep
Rob S ............ I named Rob's Passage after him
All disappeared without trace.

What about Cyril Haearn?

Indeed, as did I recently with someone I've got to know well, at least within the confines of a forum. He is fine too, but choosing not to participate.

I'd like to think that if I wanted to bow out, I would say so.
Trouble is, if one wanted to bow out, saying so starts a new thread and you'll be tempted to keep posting!

Some folk, would rather just ...................... stop.

I’ve done a bit of digging and come up with a potential online route for establishing contact, at least with someone who probably knows him. I’ll leave it a few days before trying though, and maybe a postcard from/via Simon is a simpler solution.

Thanks.

Brucey hasn't been logged in since the early hours of Friday 12th March.
However, I frequently lurk on here without actually logging in. It's good to do that and not be cornered into posting due to being anonymous.

That's the way to do it (as Mr Punch so famously said whilst hitting a baby with a truncheon). I think I've only truly left one forum and adopted that approach. Some of the 'final final, deffo final post' flounces I've read over the years have been rather cringeworthy, to say the least :?

I frequented another forum to do with the make of a car.
The mods on there allowed sponsored spam, and I objected strongly.
I was told that it would eventually go and it was a trial, so I replied that unless it went by the end of the week, I would go.
It didn't, and I've not been back.
I have lurked once, and the spam had gone ........... but I'm not going back.

I was on another forum previous to that, and I have no objection to say what it was.

Wonderful and happy place, and I enjoyed it.
Since sold the Fiat500 and have no need to go back ............ but I told them I was going and why, and I've been back afterwards too.
Also have lurked once or twice.

Personally I greatly enjoy a good melodramatic flounce! [emoji38]

I swapped PMs with one of the moderators, and told him straight. He locked the thread I'd started on the subject.

Good afternoon.
Sad to see that criticism locks a thread.
Either the blatant sponsored Spam goes, or I do.
It could be that Admin don't care perhaps, but I do, and I'm off unless the blatant sponsored Spam goes first.
I'll give it to the end of this week, and if it's still there ............... I won't be.
Best wishes for your's and my future, Mick.

Reply ........

The topic was locked as there was nothing constructive that would add further to the topic. It is the site owners who decided to trial the sponsored advertising, not admin, and I would say that the trial will be lasting for more than a week.
Obviously it is your decision to either stay or go. Best wishes.

I've not seen any evidence that he's "flounced", melodramatic or otherwise.

Nobody has said that he did.

Oh no, I wasn't at all suggesting that Brucey had, or indeed would, do such a thing!

Plenty do though, especially from Facebook groups and it's pretty much always entertaining!

I did it rather theatrically myself (if I do say so) this very afternoon, although that was in person from an actual job, which is at least ten times more fun! [emoji38]

There was a well known poster on the touring forum by the name of psmiffy. He also posted on cyclechat a fair bit, likewise put his tours on CGOAB.

On one occasion we simultaneously left two different south coast ports on the same day, with almost identical rear view ferry shots as we went on to tour Europe in different directions, just a coincidence of course but his write ups were humorous, his planning very detailed and he had a vast amount of touring experience (22 tours). In short quite Inspirational.

He stopped posting on both here and CC at the same time back in 2018, his last posts were on the same date, roughly the same time in the evening. PM's sent across all three platforms but no reply, nothing, zilch. I can only presume the worst happened to the guy, he was never confrontational so no arguments or any reason to leave and without doubt he loved his hobby.

Unfortunately there's only so far you can go. Many people walk away from forums for various reasons and vanish without trace. My guess is Brucey needs a break, perhaps he doesn't realise how valued he was on here or perhaps something has happened in his life that necessitates some time away from social media.
