Brooks leather grip spokes

Post by Squibnocket »

Are these available? I've looked on the Brooks website and they're not listed. I'm looking for a pair of the 80mm spokes to shorten some grips.
Thank you

I've got a spoke threading tool and I've made some by cutting and threading old spokes. Maybe a bike shop near you has a spoke threader and can do it for you, failing that https://www.ryanbuildswheels.co.uk/ will be able to cut you some

At first I thought it was April 1st! But they are available in packs of 6 at sjs -

It's interesting (to me) that Bosch also use spokes in their power tube e-bike batteries to hold the long stack of internal cells together.

There's another thing I knew nothing about until a few minutes ago - and it took me most of that time to work out how they did the thing that they do

I have never come across these. Can someone explain what they are for and how they work? I have looked at the sjs site and seen the photo but I am none the wiser. Thanks

You can see the set of 3 spokes per grip holding the stack of leather washers together in this photo. Nipples in one end, j-bend on other. You can remove the washers to shorten the grips, and I presume that you'd clip the excess of the spokes.

Thanks.

I saw that photo, but thought they were screws, I didn't realise they were spokes/nipples.

Every day is a wonder.

I learn something new every day.
Until this thread, I never knew spokes could be used like that.

Well, I’ll go to the foot of our stairs! Why build a shed when a mansion will do, eh?
But then again how many of us have 30 gears when 10 will do just as well?
You pays yer money....

They actually sell them in a 130mm length and provide a set of 80mm ones to shorten them if you wish to. So there's no need to "clip" the spokes shorter.
I've just purchased a pair and want to reduce the length, hence my initial enquiry.

Well, goodness me, what a revelation: I had no idea about this at all. Thanks to all who have enlightened me. I've got Brooks tape ready for wrapping and have been studying the CJ recommendations for direction and style. I think that's what I'll "stick" to, thanks again to all
