Green Party Manifesto?

Hi, a local election leaflet prompted me to look at the Green Party's website & manifesto - it's still the one they wrote for the last general election.

" Spending £2.5 billion a year on new cycleways and footpaths... "

Well, I can go for that.

"... built using sustainable materials., such as woodchips and sawdust."

Oh dear. I can't see that working terribly well. Awfully hard work on a bike. Must have been written by a car driver .

Actually not as crazy as you seem to think. I suspect they mean so-called woodcrete (a mix of waste wood, clay and a little cement, or maybe resin), which would probably be much better than the badly rolled crushed stone beloved of UK rural cycleway builders and greener than tar. Does anyone know how the Dutch tests turned out?

That's fair: it would be difficult to be worse than it sounds!

The question would be if hardened fibre re enforcement of the straw, how the substrate performs in wet conditions and baked dry conditions.

Reminds me of wattle and daube or cobb as a building material.

I would vote Green in the Scottish election , if they hadn't decide to bizarrely take a pro independence stance!

I am also a bit disappointed in their approach recently whic seems to be about what are relatively minor environmental issues without saying much about the big issue approaches to minimising climate change.
