I want to replace a pair of 6-year-old Schwalbe Marathon Supreme tyres. Size is 32-622 i.e. 700x32c. Anything larger won't fit. The Supremes seem to be unavailable in that size in the UK, so I'm looking for an alternative tyre with a similar combination of reasonably light weight, good rolling resistance, good puncture protection. Use is day rides and moderately loaded touring, mostly on road but occasional excursions on tow-paths and similar. I have Panaracer Ribmo on another bike and like them. I'd be willing to pay up to about £40 per tyre, though less would be nice. Any other suggestions please?

They last well, have good grip and are puncture resistant (can't remember when they last punctured). Rolling resistance is low https://www.bicyclerollingresistance.co ... athon-2015. They are not as funky as the Supreme but they work and are cheap to boot. Worth considering

Thanks for the suggestion. I didn't realise the Greenguard scored so well regarding rolling resistance, but they are a bit heavier than I'd like (I've used earlier versions of them in the past.) I'll probably get a pair of Ribmos. It's not very urgent - the Supremes still have plenty of tread, but they have deep cracks suggesting the material has perished somewhat, and while I don't mind using them on day rides, I'd want new tyres before doing a multi-day tour.

I could offer you several alternatives, but if you like the Supreme, as I do, you could get a pair from here for about £70 inc VAT and postage.

It's a German supplier I've dealt with pre and post Brexit, without issue, just note prices are without VAT

I use Marathon Plus. The trade-offs are well known, and the figures for rolling resistance etc are at the website linked above.

It’s a shame you cannot buy any at present as they are my favourite touring and commuting tyre.

Thanks, I have ordered a pair from them (even though total inc VAT and delivery was over 97 Euros). I'd looked at other German suppliers but they were more expensive. Ho-hum - this is what I expected after Brexit.

When they've arrived it would be very helpful if you could a comment about the supplier to this thread:

Thanks Jonathan, as you say the trade-offs are well known, and as I don't seem to get a lot of punctures with lighter tyres, the M+ don't work for me.

That's a bit of a shocker, though it's a while since I bought some, I think they were on offer then and I paid about £60 for the pair. I'm not sure it's a Brexit thing, the prices seem to have shot up everywhere. Starbike's UK prices match their Europe ones, so it's just the postage which is more expensive, though that was also the case pre Brexit. Just had a quick look and there's a UK retailer advertising the RRP as being £62 EACH!!
Oh well, the consolation is you have the tyres you want and if they last you another six years that's plenty of time to save up for the next pair.

The 700x32 looks to be in stock here at £40.

OMG and the RRP is over £60 per tyre. Insane.

The sale price is £40.

Thankfully I stocked up on tyres a couple of years ago.

Jack brown tyres are pretty nice and good value from PX, they may be a good cheap alternative to 32 Supremes. These ones are 33.3mm, but may well come up a bit narrow. I have some mile munchers and they're quite a bit narrower than spec when fitted.

Thanks, you're right. Too late for me as I've already ordered from Starbikes (total cost for pair £87.99). I looked at a lot of UK suppliers without success - not sure if Merlin were out of stock and now have them in, or if I just missed them.
