Pop down mirror

Post by Hellhound »

Has anyone any experience of these little bar end mirrors for drop bars?
This particular one is off Amazon
Image

The Beam-Corky
Rotates 360 Degree
Light weight(16g)
Simple installation
Rear-view Mirror up to 100mts
Can be mounted on all drop bars.

I like the idea of it folding away but not convinced on durabilty?

I have successfully used one of these B & M ones for years - https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/accessories ... drop-bars/ I've found it very stable, vibration free and reliable.
To get the optimum position it needs to be out to the side a bit otherwise all you see is a reflection of your right leg, and then to be tilted up/down on the ball joint for the best view. The disadvantage is that it's easily bumped out of position when leaning the bike against something. The one you show may avoid that if it can be folded away, but it looks very small
I find the mirror invaluable in showing when there is a vehicle behind, but always look back if it appears to be clear.

+1 for the B & M mirror.
Don’t know if it is better/worse/neither than the one you show, but I find it a good place for a mirror with drop bars..

Agreed, itstoo small to be of any use. I had one this size a while back, soon got rid of it. I now use one of these https://www.wiggle.co.uk/cateye-bm-300g-race-mirror, does get knocked out of line when parking etc. but easily put back into place.

Apropos of nothing, and risking the wrath of the OP, when I followed your link this was one of the pop-ups at the bottom of the page

I wonder how useful the flip away will be. How often would you be closing it up given you'll have to flip down and re-adjust next ride. I use the B & M ones linked to above and find they rarely need adjusting i.e. don't suffer vibration movement and rarely get knocked out of position so for my use those flip closed ones would never get flipped closed because I'd just be flipping open and having to re-adjust once on the road.

I'd also have concerns about the flip ones size being a bit small. The B&M ones are small but seem to work but those ones are very small!

There are a lot of good reviews but I'm always a bit sceptical with written reviews.I came a cross a vid on Youtube by Oz Cycling:-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXaAQwhvyDA

So it's not without faults.Probably not suited to UK roads either!
It's only £18 so I might just take a punt to test for myself.

I have had a range of bike mirrors but this one has been the best so far. Was sceptical before buying but reviews convinced me. It stays put and doesn't get nudged when leaving the bike against a wall. The vision it provides is huge compared to others. It doesn't vibrate on the frame and doesn't compromise what you see when turning the handlebars. The manoeuvre of opening your leg to get a full picture of the road behind you becomes second nature. Very handy when leading a group ride and wanting to take stock of who's where and how the traffic are performing. The price varies between £15 and £20.

That's a bit too big for me.The OP mirror appeals due to the size and that it folds away.

There is a market for them!
Wattbikes are £2.5k and they sell by the truckload.
Peloton bikes are £2k and only work properly if you then subscribe to Pelotons monthly training plan which is about £40pcm

Has anyone any experience with the Gilles Berthaud Bar End Mirror? At £56 from Spa it is very much more expensive than others discussed here. But the company does make many first class products. Any comments would be much appreciated.

Thanks

The Spintech mirrors are excellent and give wide viewing angles, especially when used as a pair.

and can be had in various colours.
