Shimano FD R7000 - Shifting issue

Post by john4ever »

Afternoon All,

Just replaced my shifter (ST7020), and something weird happened. My FD stopped working properly.

I can shift it up, but to shift it down I have to wait 5 minutes, otherwise the shifter is not reacting.
I tried so many things but it's not working. I don't have a clue what is the problem.

New cable installed, tension adjusted, FD cleaned .

Any ideas?

Is the cable seated properly in the shifter?
If you detach the cable from the FD and operate the shifter, while holding the end of the cable to keep it tensioned does it move freely?

Thanks for your reply.

No, it still goes only up, and it's not shifting down.

Was going to ask the same questions.

Is the cable run and attachment to the FD correct?

If you detach the cable at the FD does the FD move smoothly?

Sorted.

Next time before I post anything, I must put everything together before checking.

Rubber cover was not placed properly (slightly bended) and it was preventing leaver from retracting...

Thank you guys for help, I do appreciate!

You are not alone in having had this issue!
Same thing happened to me when fitting a new 7020 shifter. I was mystified & cursing being sold a faulty shifter until I realised the folded rubber cover was obstructing the lever!
