Tyre seating tool
Re: Tyre seating tool
I have no difficulty seating tyres, but removing my 'tubeless ready' tyres is a bear. Is this tool any good for un-seating these tyres? A video using this tool would be nice - is there one? I saw it mentioned in one of the reviews, but no link.
Re: Tyre seating tool
The Kool Stop Tool is for mounting tyres. There are a number of videos showing how to use it https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Kool+Stop+Tyr ... &ia=videos

Having a couple of arthritic fingers I find this tool to be excellent, lightweight and just about fits in my under-saddle bag

. . . but in the workshop for customers' bikes I have one of these

Taking this from the Park web site referenced:
"This tool is designed to quickly and easily “seat” stubborn tyres. During inflation, tire beads often slip below the rim edge and are difficult to pull out. Simply place the non-slip jaws on the tire and lift out. "
Which would seem to indicate the tool is actually used to "unseat" the tyre.

Re: Tyre seating tool
For getting tight tyres onto rims, I like the Var lever: https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/tools/var-tyre-levers/. One side sits on the opposing rim wall and you hook the other side under the bead you're getting onto the rim. I've been using them for decades - every bike I ride has one in the toolkit.
The original model (same shape, but in grey plastic) would get brittle with age, and I eventually broke a couple of them. The current one is in blue and I have yet to break one of them.

Re: Tyre seating tool
The terminology is a bit confusing - when it says the "tire bead slips below the rim edge" it means on the outside of the rim - so the tool is for fitting tyres - the sort of scoop shape gets hold of the tyre/tire to lever it over the rim.Tiggertoo wrote: ↑7 Aug 2021, 2:57am Taking this from the Park web site referenced:

The other tip on stubborn tyre fitting is to create a "third hand" by using an old-style toe-clip strap to fix one end of the area you are pulling over the rim firmly - you then have 2 hands and only one side of the tyre bead to deal with (a cable tie works too, but obvously is single use as it need to be cut to remove it (I tend to use ties in the workshop as they hold the tyre tighter)

I don't know, Tiggertoo's quote uses the words 'during inflation' - that suggests you can use the tool to lift up a 'low spot' during inflation, where a section of the tyre bead stays too low, the problem I have with wide tyres on a relatively narrow rim, when I have to pump them up to maximum pressure until I hear a *pop* and the tyre bead pops up and seats itself. Seems you can obviously also use it to lever the tyre over the rim, so is it not sort of 'dual purpose'?robgul wrote: ↑7 Aug 2021, 7:43amThe terminology is a bit confusing - when it says the "tire bead slips below the rim edge" it means on the outside of the rim - so the tool is for fitting tyres - the sort of scoop shape gets hold of the tyre/tire to lever it over the rim.Tiggertoo wrote: ↑7 Aug 2021, 2:57am Taking this from the Park web site referenced:

Yes and that would indeed be a 'seating tool'kylecycler wrote: ↑7 Aug 2021, 12:15pm I don't know, Tiggertoo's quote uses the words 'during inflation' - that suggests you can use the tool to lift up a 'low spot' during inflation,

Review of the tool - I was looking for one by Calvin Jones @ Park Tool but don't think he's done one, although this is well done - so, yup, for tyre seating
