Good that someone with authority and (a bit of) power is at least talking about it. But discouraging that he's still talking about
encourage people who drive petrol or diesel cars in the capital to switch to public transport, walking, cycling or electric vehicles “where necessary”.
We've been "encouraging" drivers to switch for 20 years or so... Yes, it is politically difficult but look at Paris to see that if a leader is bold – if a leader says, almost, "*@#% the votes" – they can take the city with them and do things. And
At the moment, just two per cent of vehicles on the roads in London are electric.
yes, electric vehicles will make a difference to air pollution, but not to congestion, road safety, dislocation, isolation, physical fitness and the other problems caused by motorised traffic.
