How bad? Running Presta in Shreda

Post by Trikeyohreilly »

Please pardon my spelling. Can't spell dyslexic either.

Can you perceive a problem running a Presta innertube in a rim designed for a shreda valve?

If it makes any difference, it in a 20 (406) rim.

I know you can get an adjuster to change the diameter or the valve hole but I dont have one available right now.

Sorry if this has been answered before (sure it has) but couldn't find it in the search.

Thank you

Some presta inner tubes come with a valve stem threaded collar that has a shoulder that fits neatly in a schrada sized rim hole. The enclosed photo shows the upper collar as the correct one - although it should be the other way round. With one of these and tube fitted properly with the valve perpendicular to the hole you should be fine.

I wouldn't choose to. As you've said adaptor grommets are available.

If I had to fit one and didn't have a grommet or collar then I'd make something out of rubber sheet, such as a tube or a thin-walled tyre.

Off to check the archives... some suggestions that you can use a valve dust cap as an adaptor...

Rim grommets available from unicycle.com at the grand price of 55p each. Type in 'schrada to presta rim adapter' in your search engine.

It's Schrader. Although those clever search engines will probably find the information regardless.

Unless you are running low pressures when you might get some tube rotation in the tyre, it won't matter one jot....
