I got talking to a Dutchman with his cycling family at Formby yesterday, and asked him how he pronounced 'Gazelle', I think he said the second version, hard to say. Does the accent on the 'a' in your Gazelle example give the guttural 'throat clearing' sound heard in the Dutch language ?kylecycler wrote: ↑20 Dec 2021, 7:22pm
I prefer the way the Dutch pronounce 'Gazelle' to the way we pronounce it, btw: either 'Chàzell-e' or 'Hàzell-e', depending on the dialect, with the 'ch' as in 'loch' or 'och' and the 'e' as in Porsche*....
I should perhaps have asked him to pronounce the name of his bike -'Johnny Loco', I imagine it might have sounded a bit Geordie like, Honny Lewko ?

Talking of unusual attachments, I don't recall noticing a cross-bar (top-tube !) mounted child's seat since when I was a kid, they were quite a commonly fitted accessory way back then (1950's-60's).
