Why are they so ugly?

Electrically assisted bikes, trikes, etc. that are legal in the UK

I can't see many bikes in the retail chain NOT having assist in the next 2-3 years. 'ordinary' non assist bikes will be like vinyl records are today: something for the enthusiasts. The battery is here to stay, and if it tempts an army of people from out of their cars, more power (pardon the pun) to it!

'Racing types' have been disparaging other bicycles since long before E bikes came on the Scene. :D

And touring types disparaging racing types, and both disparaging MTB'ers... Plenty of example on this forum, it's the way of the World.

Mind you racing bikes are probably at the moment the ugliest they've ever been, when you look back at some of the slender beauties that once graced the roads. Yet people have managed to convince themselves that oversized odd shaped CF tubes are some how nice.

At the end of the day any object that does the job its designed for 'well' is a thing of beauty in its own right and that includes anything from a tin opener to electric bicycles of all shapes and sizes and even to those new fangled CF frames (which have only been around a mere 30 odd years if you count them glue a tube offerings  )

I must admit I'm a sucker for a good looking bike well finished, with coordination in colours. Is it just me or do most ebikes have the dullest paint finishes out there?

Is this bright enough? Both Orbea and Ribble offer customised finishes.

Gosh thats really ugly!

Go look at a slender Mercian with its graceful lower forks.

Reuse, recycle, thus do your bit to save the planet.... Get stuff at auctions, Dump, Charity Shops, Facebook Marketplace, Ebay, Car Boots. Choose an Old House, and a Banger ..... And cycle as often as you can......

- I agree (but only with the second part) the most beautiful bike I've owned was my Gerrard, all 531, deep dark blue in colour, fully Campag equipped.
But Mercian don't make ebike frames do they?

Hi,
Vorpal wrote: 28 Jan 2022, 9:12am Why shame anyone's bikes?

Isn't it enough that they are out cycling instead of driving?

How would you feel if you joined this forum & found a thread where someone posted a picture of your bike with the title, "Why are they so ugly?"
So what :)
