There's also parts of the workforce that simply benefit from flexibility. In bars & restaurants across the EU, snow resorts and other tourist locations, air travel and many other parts of the service economy it's common for staff to be younger adults (and occasionally older!) essentially mixing in an extended sabbatical in location away from home with earning some cash to support that.

Ceasing FoM has not only starved GB employers of that labour pool but denied opportunities to British citizens to take similar opportunities across the EU

"Our Food: An annual review of food standards across the UK":
https://www.food.gov.uk/our-work/executive-summary

The Chair's comments include:

“We are under no illusions that there are major challenges ahead. Establishing full UK import controls on food from the EU by the end of next year is a priority. The longer the UK operates without assurance that products from the EU meet our high food and feed safety standards, the less confident we can be that we can effectively identify potential safety incidents.
“As the report also points out, local authority inspections declined during the reporting period. Even though there are signs of improvement, particularly on hygiene inspections, local authorities continue to face resourcing constraints which could affect progress."

That's politespeak for "We've stopped carrying out some basic safety procedures.".

Scottish hospitality sector

"After surviving the Covid lockdowns, hospitality businesses are now being faced with a cost of living crisis, soaring inflation and staffing shortages."

"In 2019, a third of our staff were from the European Union. Now we are just not getting applications from there. Unless the government step in and take the issue seriously what you will see is a pretty apocalyptic future for hospitality."

Clean water

The Environment Agency is today calling for:
• Courts to impose much higher fines for serious and deliberate pollution incidents. Fines currently handed down by the courts often amount to less than a Chief Executive’s salary.
• Prison sentences for Chief Executives and Board members whose companies are responsible for the most serious incidents and company directors struck off so they cannot move on in their careers after illegal environmental damage.

It may be calling for it but will it ever happen?
The recent past has seen lowering of environmental standards by a substandard government!
Could Brexit have anything to do with that?

One of the problems with the current enforcement regime is a lack of staff to investigate & follow up.

It seems that higher fines are of little benefit, if serious and deliberate pollution incidents aren't investigated in the first place.

Isn't it the same story across board with all lawbreakers.?
No one on policing it and fines and punishment laughable if you can afford the best lawyers?

My view it never would but it's what the result decreed. What it didn't make clear was the manner of our leaving.
Brexit is not an oven ready deal and dealings with the EU will not improve until the Tories lose power.
Only then can we negotiate a deal that will not severely handicap the future of the UK.

The ERG group and other Brexit supporting MPs are playing a game of chess to get their chosen candidate elected leader. This stinks as the new leader should be the one with the most ability to form some agreement between the left and right of the party. I see much infighting ahead. :)

It's what you get in the worst of all Brexit deals in a country that's been taken for a ride by the uber rich who dictate to the politicians and media who they fund, who in turn spout huge lies and keep spouting them until fools believe them.
The Tories have been in power 12years now and the country is in far worse state than when they came to power, whilst the rich have never been happier and the poor haven't been poorer in that time.

I make this point occasionally but it needs to be remembered that, as an 'advisory' vote the result decreed absolutely nothing beyond the numbers themselves. To consider a very slim simple majority as a 'win' is entirely a choice and opinion of the then and subsequent executives and the wider media. There was no legal requirement or basis for any of the actions that were taken post vote.

And more so such a "hard" Brexit the current bunch under Johnson imposed upon the country!
