mangled a couple of ribs about 3 years ago when i slipped and fell onto a hard floor, they still hurt now and again .

Even 2 years down the line in still bothered by this injury, not significantly, but it's a serious thing and not to be taken lightly. I'm still very wary of straining the injury site.
