Mr Loophole plumbing the depths

Post by xerxes »

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-m ... r-59649900

This guy made his reputation by helping dangerous drivers avoid their just deserts, and now wants to make things difficult for cyclists. Of course it is unlikely to happen in the current climate where (supposedly) more emphasis is being placed on getting more people cycling. But the fact that he has 10,000 signatures just goes to show that there are a lot of morons out there.

I agree with one of his statements though - "...something must be done to make road space safer for everyone". That would be best achieved by reducing the number of cars on the road.

He's thought of yet another way to drum up free publicity. Let's not give him more.

 ..perhaps if Mr Loophole wishes to make the roads safer he should stop defending motorists who have been caught breaking the law..

..the guy's clearly emotionally stunted, who probably feels physically and morally insecure whenever a cyclist passes him when he's stuck in a traffic jam..

...how quickly can we raise 10,000 signatures to ask parliament to discuss protecting cyclists from any further red tape in order to encourage more people to cycle :D

Or perhaps to ask parliament to legislate that all car parking, including on road, must include 1 bike rack per 5 car spaces?

That's interesting: has there been a similar campaign anywhere?

I'm in favour of interventions that could tip the balance for that person who isn't going to use that bike for the next journey but just might...

... is inadequate parking space known to be in that category?

Thanks

"We are all delighted with the results of the petition since something must be done to make road space safer for everyone."
Yes indeed - that's what we all want.

"The lawyer also wants mandatory use of cycle lanes, and penalty point punishments for misdemeanours." and presumably mandatory use of roads (and not pavements and cycle lanes) for motor vehicles and also penalty point punishments for misdemeanours. After all "This is not about a war between drivers and others but the need to have one law for all."

"wants cyclists to wear a registered tabard or bib." With the words "Please Pass Wide and Slow" or maybe "Motorists Stay Back"?????

Dear MP,
I feel I must draw your attention to the fact the the political system and indeed your valuable time may be used to discuss whether cyclists should wear a registered tabard for identification purposes.
We must be clear about this, this discussion has not been asked in the nature of road safety, (because the person who has asked works as a defence lawyer for those charged with motoring offences) but as a cynical attempt as cheap advertising for his practice.
If you would prefer not to be seen as a vehicle for his advertising scheme, I would give the discussion the briefest of acknowledgements and reject the demands as a clear message that the political system should not be used as free advertising.

IMO, to the extent that any such petition might gain the signatures with the resultant publicity, a certain learned friend would be laughing little apples.
