Petition to defrock Tony Blair

Post by thirdcrank »

(I don't know what the correct word is for removing a knighthood. )

Anyway, I see there's a fast-growing petition to strip Tony Blair of his, completed with a demon image.

Has anybody signed?

Hi,
As far as I can tell petition will not apply in this case of knighthood, or any case of Knighthood.

It's mute point?

I think you will See a Civil War UK before you have any chance of landing on Mars first.

I was against the Iraq war at a time when it wasn't fashionable, but I still rate Blair as the best PM in my lifetime.

Me too, head and shoulders above the present lot, including Starmer.
He was completely wrong on some matters (Iraq) but compared to Johnson he was as honest as the day is long.

Hi,
Blair was believable for sure, if you just listen to what he said And how he said it.

But I never believed him any more than I would a door to door salesman.

The same could be said for any p.m./politician.

Not sure of the exact quote but basically anyone who spends the time, money and energy necessary to get elected to high office ought not to be trusted with the job

Well, I don't think this petition will come to anything (when has a petition ever borne fruit?) - but I have my own device for voicing disapproval - after all Mrs P and I were among the masses in the 2003 Stop The War march.

Should I have occasion to mention the above individual, I shall refer to him as "Sir Blair" which is manifestly incorrect. The correct form of address would be "Sir Tony..." (or maybe "Sir Anthony..."). So there, Sir Blair!

I'll just think of him as now being a member of the same group as "Sir Jimmy".

Me too, head and shoulders above this bunch of charlatans we've had for the last 10 years. He was wrong about Iraq (an understatement I know) but there were a lot of solid socialist policies pushed through by him and his government.

I never liked him or his style but he did deliver. Whether he deserves a knighthood...I don't think anyone does for "doing their job", honours should be reserved for those who do good works outside of their jobs and for altruistic reasons, not as a reward for doing what they are paid for doing anyway.

Hi,
Altruistic.

To be altruistic you would probably be helping those that are off the radar.
So you are unlikely ever to be noticed.

The other thing of course is the fact that there is a system for getting an award of this type I mean in general a Queens award.

I just happened to have almost firsthand experience of this.
I just happened to be in the right place at the wrong time.
Some of his friends mention the fact they had persuaded his son to write a letter.
In its self this seems quite innocent, But why didn't his friends simply do that their selfs.

Probably because they were connected to him on several levels, and he the Queens award recipient was and still is well connected.

When I say well-connected I mean in a position to promote and connect his whole family and more.
He is my father-in-law by association.
And I am the black sheep.

Exactly like a politician/celebrity who can escape almost anything.

Yep.

Politicians are all the same.
The only ones who are decent and honest, don't ever get any higher up than an "also ran" MP.

..so I suspect that the reason why Blair received his blue Peter badge and cracker crown of thin orange paper from the leaders of the made up country of meritocria was for destabilising a country which was already in difficulties and by doing so stole all their oil supplies, so that no one in Britain would ever have to ride a ghastly bicycle....

..man, I should really stop sitting on the fence with these things...
