Typical Daily Mail
Typical inflammatory and divisive headline from the Daily Mail. Pretty shocking journalism. As were the comments but what can you expect when you stoke the fire

Re: Typical Daily Mail
Why don't you put a link to the full article, instead of a 10 second video?
Re: Typical Daily Mail
Here’s the headline
“Motorists' fury as cyclists IGNORE £150m cycle lane scheme in Bournemouth and pedal along the road - forcing drivers into oncoming traffic”
and the link
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... -road.html
The article makes the point that the path is partly blocked by construction barriers that had blown down.

Re: Typical Daily Mail
£150M cycle lane - really?
Looking at the video still on the Mail website, looks like the segregated cycle lane leaves cyclists open to getting left hooked at the junction....
no ASL or advanced green for cycles as far as I can tell.

Re: Typical Daily Mail
It looks like there is work going on adjacent to the cycle path - there is what looks like a tarpaulin laying partly on the path as is a temporary barrier.. Have there been recent works preventing cyclists from using the cycle path?
Agree the provision at the junction is inadequate.
£150M ? for a cycle path - more likely the cycle path is part of a £150M road "improvement scheme".
Of course coming from a reputable newspaper like the DM

Re: Typical Daily Mail
Confirmation, if any was needed, of which road users segregation is intended to benefit.
Re: Typical Daily Mail
Indeed - the article contradicts itself by saying this is part of a wider scheme to create sustainable travel links across south east Dorset which cost £102m in total, so it is hard to see how the path in Bournemouth could have cost £150m.
Re: Typical Daily Mail
Of course another Daily Fail anti cyclist rant as I see no on coming traffic where passing vehicles are driving in to. Also it typically absolves drivers in the form of using their brain to decide when an when it is not safe to carry out a passing manoeuvre, when will they learn that roads are use by a manner of all folk and vehicles.
Re: Typical Daily Mail
Maybe it should read £1.5m?
£150m is much better to get the public outcry the DF wants though

Re: Typical Daily Mail
It was on my newsfeed yesterday and I read it. Comments by Council that cycle lane had barriers and work going on didn't seem to matter.
The whole article was a real mishmash, but I was most amused that drivers had "to swerve" to get past the cyclist.

It's amazing how many people have forgotten that the daily mail supported Hilter's rise to power

Nobody on this forum can forget that. Some savant brings it up everything 3 months. What's less well known is that the Daily Mirror had a thing for Moseley.cycle tramp wrote: ↑6 Jan 2022, 9:24pm It's amazing how many people have forgotten that the daily mail supported Hilter's rise to power.
