It's true I do have a soft spot for the Great Glen, the ride thru Glencoe Valley in any kind of weather is worth it for that alone. Its one of the most spectacular routes in Europe (and I've knocked around a fair bit!)

Perth, Pitlochry, Aviemore... Probably 3 of the dullest, most tedious towns in Britain. Aviemore looks like a 1960's new town went wrong. And something to do at night, forget about it. Some of the worst tourist pubs and restaurants I've even had the misfortune to visit.

I'm sorry, but even given the rousing anthem of "Killiecrankie - oh", the A9 is a poor cousin to the Great Glen. No matter how you try and paint it, there's no polishing a turd. If you want the trip of a lifetime, the Great Glen is where its at, and the return journey by train, Fort William to Glasgow still one of the great train journeys of the world. The train from Inverness to Perth... Not so much!
