THESE MOTIONS HAVE BEEN SUBMITTED – ANY COMMENTS?

Cycling UK – AGM 2022

MOTION1

ELECTION TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES

CTC/Cycling UK shall include on the election papers circulated to members the date that candidates joined the CTC /Cycling UK.

REASON1
Currently, all candidates for election to the board of trustees must state in their election address the date they joined Cyclist’ Touring Club/Cycling UK.

This motion is to correct an error on a previous motion
On page 5 of https://www.cyclinguk.org/sites/default ... 705020.pdf

that did not state the date candidates’ joined CTC/Cycling UK MUST be include on the election papers circulated to voting members.

MOTION2

THE SEVEN PRINCIPLES OF PUBLIC LIFE

CTC/Cycling UK shall incorporate in the constitution “The Seven Principles of Public Life”- Published 31 May 1995.

They are Selflessness, Integrity, Objectivity, Accountability, Openness, Honesty, and Leadership.

https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... ublic-life

REASON2

The board of trustees have previously stated that they would follow these "Principles”.

Last year one of these principles were disregarded when the circulated election address to the voting members did not state the date candidates joined the CTC/Cycling UK.

This omission, I was told, by a senior member of the staff, was intentional.

I would like Cycling UK to try and help these groups, if needed, to have the dates published by early in the new year, and try to fill any month, from May to Sept with an extra event in a region that lacks a cycle rally, provided some local support could be found as well (small event intended). Perhaps an event in a National park location and rotate per year. Yorkshire Dales cycle rally for example? Cycling Uk and the National Parks try to work out some details. Areas of outstanding https://landscapesforlife.org.uk/about- ... s/overview
Cycling UK could approach National Parks, AONB or other suitable locations, with a view to providing extra cycling events

Having read this through twice I have a question.

What??

I mean, seriously, I don't see the difference. What is the problem that you are trying to solve?

Read again regarding the date, last year 2021 the date was NOT included on the election address. This wasn't error , according co sec previous motion requiring the date did not state it had to be published and circulated with the voting paper's.

It's just a pic I first uploaded about five years ago, most likely an extract from AGM minutes. I no longer have a link to the doc it was cropped from.

motion submitted by C Clarke, seconded D Hope

The motion reads.

1
That CTC (trade name Cycling UK) approaches representatives of National Parks and Areas of Outstanding National Beauty (AONB), National Scenic Areas (NSAs - Scotland), or other areas, with a view to promoting family friendly quiet cycling routes.

Reasons

There are 15 National Parks in the UK. England, Wales and Northern Ireland has 46 Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), Scotland has 40 National Scenic Areas (NSAs) and there are other areas that are often good for cycling. The CTC may be able to gather details of the most suitable cycling routes that are already available and suggest where improvements may be possible.

Over time the CTC may recommend near by campsites that it considers suitable and work together with local councils and interested parties to improve cycling in these areas, thus increasing the areas attractiveness for cycling visits. Site owners may be interested in being listed and add cycling details to their information. Options to provide display boards of the routes could be considered if demand and funding became available.

CTC regional groups and members may also be able to suggest suitable routes or where improvements could be made in their area, such as providing ‘cycleways’ connecting villages that provide a more direct route and possibly avoids busy roads.

Details of the routes could be made available to the public and be helpful to existing cycling or people intending to cycle.
----------
In brief,
Could be helpful to cyclists or tourists visiting National Parks /AONB
Could be helpful to promoting extra cycle routes connecting villages
Route details could be downloaded if required.

All the best
