Big Issue ebikes in Bristol

Post by simonineaston »

Have recently started seeing bright red & white ebikes around in my home town of Bristol. Anyone any comments?

Having read the article about the Big Issue bikes in Bristol Post, I was quickly linked to another piece, on the subject of the Mayor's continuing enthusiasm for an underground system, here in Bristol - is he off his crust??

If it takes 20 or so years to get the Portishead to Bristol branch line upgraded / extended for passengers for a 'measly' few 100 million then what hope getting billions raised and spent on a city wide scheme with city centre tunnels?

I wish them well with bike hire in Bristol.

Underground ? Would it have a rack system to cope with the hills
What happened to the proposed bike lift up Park Street. Would have cost peanuts when compared to the underground.

Is there anything more recent than this on the mass transit system?

And here's a working example of a cyclo cable in Trondheim just in case you thought it a joke or even a Pie in the Sky.

I live mid-north in the city and regularly travel between my house (think GCC cricket ground) and the centre, with my route more often than not, crossing the M32. I've done that for years. Imagine my confusion as year on year the traffic heading into the centre has built up slowly, so that now, most of Saturday & Sunday, there's a queue literally as far as the eye can see, of cars jam-full of folks heading towards the centre, in order presumably to Have A Good Time... Go figure.

I've seen a few of the bikes around the city centre, how many are already in the dock?
Convention? what's that then?

With no docking stations, how do the bikes get charged?

I tried one out a few weeks back and it was my first go on an e-bike and the kick of the motor was good but I soon got to the max speed of the motor. It didn't feel any faster than a leg powered bike but obviously there is a cost involved for the hire, it isn't cheap. My two rides so far have been short and expensive, Ride 1 cost me £2.90 for 11:06 minutes and the other cost £1.60 for 3:34 minutes though the daily limit is capped at £12 per day.
In the last two days I've seen bikes with bent rear wheels, or might have been the same one that had been moved. How long before the local no-marks are riding them like the YoBikes, that left me £20 out of pocket?
