Post by chrisfarrow64 »

Anyone know what size the battery is in an Edge Explore in mAh? Can't find it specified anywhere....

900 mAh and 1000 mAh will also work (I've tried it).

Available from Amazon and Ebay shops. I found out how to change the battery from a Youtube video.

Can someone please supply some links?

My searches so far don't show any battery replacements for the Edge Explore.
For example
https://snspro.co.uk/product-category/garmin-repairs/
only shows a charging port repair, although offering battery replacement for a wide range of other Garmin models.

Thanks for the suggestions, but...
These replies amply illustrate the issue that I am having.

"Garmin Edge Touring Plus"

"Garmin Edge Explore 1000"

Neither of these is an Edge Explore, which is a specific model.

https://www.garmin.com/en-GB/p/611996
[Edge Explore]

not

https://www.garmin.com/en-GB/p/143677
[Edge Touring Plus]

or

https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/134491
[Edge 1000]

Most searches are still turning up "Edge Explore xxxx" where it is in reality an Edge xxxx.

The Edge Touring Plus is a new one on me, so who knows there might be battery comparability and construction similarity but the fact remains that I still haven't found any specific reference to battery or how to replace for the Edge Explore[no numbers].

Don't shoot the messenger! I think if you call Garmin about the issue they will probably tell
you that the battery can't be replaced.

Edit: If they offer you a discount on a more expensive model (eg, Edge 530 / 830 / 1030 plus)
I'd take it. They gave me a 30% discount on an Edge 1030 plus. Yes, I know you'll probably
cry poverty, etc etc. I had an Edge Explore (extremely limited use) and found battery life poor
and managed to sell it on. My Edge Touring Plus froze, and the various re-boots, didn't rectify
it, so Garmin told me to send it back to them in exchange or a 30% discount code.

You won't have any issues with battery life on a 1030 plus. I've done some 5 - 6 hour rides and
still had about 80% remaining (despite having the map showing for all the ride) using hr cadence and speed sensors.

Ouch!

Not poverty as such, but if I was going to lash out £5-600 I might be tempted to a new bike instead.

Given the price, using a power bank and USB lead certainly costs in big time.

Conclusions: The Garmin Edge Explore[no numbers or qualifiers] is let down by the battery life. However there seems to be no way to replace the battery. Using an external power supply seems the most sensible solution.

Just being picky now, but the video is for an Edge 1000 (not Edge Explore nor Edge Explore 1000 as claimed).
It is immediately obvious that there are lots of nice screws holding the back on.
Unfortunately there are no screws visible on the back of the Edge Explore[no numbers].

With the discount Garmin gave me for a more expensive model in exchange for returning the faulty and discontinued Edge Touring Plus, I paid £363 for a 1030 Plus.
