A long shot for the plastic kit modellers here

I salvaged an abandoned model that my son had started and it's been taking up space for a couple of years. Well now I want to complete it and what a pigs ear it is. The model is the Starship Enterprise NX-01 by Polar lights.
There are several things wrong and I don't know if it can be recovered. Having glued the nacelles onto the booms, he then cuts one off and glues it back with a hot glue gun. Not a good join, so I part it with a scalpel. Where the join was, the plastic is a bit manky. In a couple of places, the parts are not pushed together right, so there's gaps of about 1mm. A couple of small bits are missing.

So..... How do I make a good solid join beween nacelle and pilon?
How do I fill gaps in seams?
How do I fill a gap the size of a postage stamp where two bulkheads are missing?
What do I carve replacement bits out of?

And lastly....

Has anyone ever used some graphics art material for masking paintwork, think it's called Frisket paper, for doing the bizarre colour scheme pattern that is called 'Aztecking'?

Aaaargh :? :? :?

On the Starship Enterprise, under Captain Kirk.
Star Trekking, across the universe,
Only going forward, 'cause we can't find reverse.

Lt. Uhura, report!

Uhura:

There's Klingons on the starboard bow,
starboard bow, [again|Jim].

It's life, Jim, but not as we know it,
not as we know it, Captain.

Uhura:

There's Klingons on the starboard bow,
starboard bow,
starboard bow.
There's Klingons on the starboard bow,
starboard bow, again.

Chorus:

Star Trekking, across the universe,
On the Starship Enterprise, under Captain Kirk.
Star Trekking, across the universe,
Only going forward, still can't find reverse.

Medical "garbled", Doctor McCoy

It's worse than that, he's dead, Jim.
Dead, Jim.
Dead, Jim.
It's worse than that, he's dead, Jim.
Dead, Jim, Dead.

Spock:

It's life, Jim, but not as we know it,

Spock:

Well, it's life, Jim, but not as we know it,

It's life, Jim, but not as we know it,

Uhura:

There's Klingons on the starboard bow,

There's Klingons on the starboard bow,

ANYWAY, Thirdcrank, to get back to the original post...........LOL

Alan D wrote:How do I fill gaps in seams?

Modelling filler. Can't remember which brand I used as it was years ago. fill the seam a little proud and rub back with a light emery.

How do I fill a gap the size of a postage stamp where two bulkheads are missing?

Not quite sure of the set-up, but maybe see point below......

What do I carve replacement bits out of?

Plasticard (from any modelling shop; different sizes, colours, and widths) or anything you can find around the house - nobody knows what it was once painted!

Wonderful!

Don't we get some good subjects? I thought our bathroom plumbing problem last week was bad enough!

ive read that mixing polystyrene with modelling glue doesnt go too well...maybe a material to avoid

milliput is good for filling gaps, or you can also use liquid glue mixed with offcuts of sprue to a thickish consistency then dabbed into the areas (for small gaps)

Alan
I'd go for a ride, have a nice coffee, relax, let go the odd fart in public, put it back in the box(not the fart),then put it back on the shelf and pretent you didn't open it.
After which you could take some deep breathing exercises and just let it go

PS,Whaaaat is 'Sprue'? it seems its quite plentiful as one would have offcuts of it

sprue is the framework that all the bits come attatched to .

A sprue is part of a feeder/runner system for the material (plastic, steel, aluminium, whatever) to pass along into a cavity mould. So in plastic model kits the producers leave the runner system (commonly referred to as sprues) intact to keep parts seperate.
