Advice on A4303 near Lutterworth

Post by Jonnyb »

Hi, I have a new job at Magna Park, Leicestershire. I have a route from Rugby that goes to the roundabout of the A5 and A4303 then there's 0.3 mile of the A4303 before it turns into Magna Park.

There's also 1.5 ml on the B4027 country lane with 50mph limit before the roundabout.

Are either parts too risky to ride?

PS I've posted this on another forum, to increase the chances of getting a reply.

Hmm, personally would not want to cycle round this on a regular basis...

It's a while since I've ridden round that way, but I know where you mean.

The road to avoid is the A426 - there's not many roads I will not cycle on, but that's one. It's the lorry racetrack between the A5 and the M1 for non- Magna Park traffic.

Now, your real question - I think, if I remember correctly, the A4303 has a decent cycle lane adjacent to the carriageway.
The B4207 - if its the road I'm thinking of - is a 'busy country road'. Fine to ride if you must!

As pointed out by the other poster, it's probably not the roads themselves that will be uncomfortable but that roundabout.
The A5 has a reputation for being a dangerous road (the road is safe, it's the way drivers use it). Only you can answer whether you have the skills to deal with that junction (in all weathers, in variable light, etc).

https://cycle.travel/ Suggest to go via Lutterworth. Might be a little longer but avoiding that roundabout on a daily basis might well be worth it.

I couldn't see any cycle lane on that stretch of the A4303, there is further on. Unless Google Maps is out of date

I did see a rideable route from Lutterworth to Magna Park. Will check the route from Rugby to Lutterworth. Thanks for the tip

Cyclestreets going via Lutterworth and avoiding A5, A426 and A4304. Also going from Rugby. Not much difference unfortunately.

Can't get images to load. They would show circular routes of 16ml, instead of 8ml via A5 roundabout
