Ibis and bikes

Post by roberts8 »

I am planning a weekend in Calais to watch the tour. I intend to use ibis but not sure if I can take my bike into the room. Does anyone know if this is possible before I book?
Good to be planning again.

Pauline and me have stayed in many of their hotels and was either allowed to take bikes into our room or they had a secure place for them.

In France a cyclist is not regarded as low life, never had a problem with bikes in a hotel.

Freewheeling France has some info on bike-friendly hotels in Calais. https://www.freewheelingfrance.com/dire ... age-1/?1=1

Personally, I’ve only once had an issue bringing my bike into an Ibis hotel. The manager in Koblenz was quite officious and only offered a space in a public underground car park, which we declined. After some negotiation we were allowed to bring the bikes into our room

Call and ask. Most Ibis are fine, but some, especially in converted buildings, only allow bikes in a garage or luggage room due to tight turns or narrow corridors on the way to standard rooms.

I've never had a problem in Ibis France, they have always been welcoming and helpful.

Thanks for the replies. I know know for future trips. Looks like the hotels are booked by the teams and the entourage so I have gone airbnb for a couple of nights. Should be a good few days enjoying the Tour.

I'm a bit late to this but it seems you are staying in Calais.
If you can get to the finish as a pedestrian I'd advise leaving the bike where you are staying - the crowds will be dense and a bike can be a hindrance - also, unlike a lot of France, Calais is not a good place to leave a bike unattended
I'm intending to go but stay outside Calais and it'll be somewhere on the course or coming in to Calais by train.

Never had problems with hotels anywhere in France. In one Ibis they even let me leave my bike in the manager's office overnight.

Oh, a lie: when I phoned one small hotel in Arc-et-Senans (pretentious hole) they wanted us to leave our bikes out on the street overnight. We got there late, though: everyone had gone to bed so we left our bikes in the lobby and buggered off next morning before they got up (we were doing a diagonale so sleeping from midnight until 4 am was normal).
Have we got time for another cuppa?

Antonish. Fair point to note but my intention is to cycle out then end up on the Cap Blanc Nez to watch the final climb and they may have a screen so it might be interesting. I will make sure I secure my bike properly.
Maybe I will be cheering Pidcock?

Sorry I'm a bit late replying.
Cap Blanc Nez will probably be a good place to watch - you will need to get there very early to get a good spot ( also the police will close the road long before the caravan gets there and they wont let you ride a bike )
Your bike will probably be safer there.
Pidcock? a great talent but there are a few sprinters that could survive the climbs so I wouldn't bet on him.
Have a nice day.

You are probably right about Tom but I will just enjoy being there and I will get there early.
Went for airbnb as ibis fully booked as are other chains and half the price and central location so pleased.
Lift arranged to Ashord so slow train to Dover and away.
