Hi folks, does anyone have any info re the activity or otherwise of the excellent vintage cycle parts supplier run by Hilary Stone? I understand he must be at - or past! - retirement and am wondering if he runs the store as a regular business or more as a hobby, these days.
I've tried to contact him recently but without success - I see the most recent post on their Facebook page was this month.

I got a large chainwheel from him...?.but it was a couple a of years ago. One thing I found was that he was part time, the un-used days were actually used for scouring for goods!

Cheers. All info. helps :-)
I understood he's semi-retired and keen to retire fully back to France - and I have a vague recollection he had a house not far from me, off Muller Road, near me here in Bristol.

I made an enquiry about a frameset about two years ago and was told, quite abruptly, that it had been sold some time before.
It’s still on the site now, along with several others I remember seeing.

edit: looked a bit further and I don’t think the pages have been changed at all. :|

He used to post stuff quite regularly on LFGSS but I don't visit there very often these days.

He has been 'missing' from Cycle jumbles for a while now . Although my mate did see him at one recently .
I believe he relocated from Bristol to Merthyr Tidfil ( sorry if spelling awry) some time ago but he has more recently been rumoured to be in France . His son Kia was racing there last time I spoke to him (a couple if years ago) I heard through the Grapevine he has sold the Hilary Stone Cycles Stock (Golden Age Cycles?) but none of this is solid just rumour and speculation.

I've just had a chat with someone - perhaps HS - and similary, the item/s I spotted on the website are no longer available. Although the Facebook page does appear to be a trfile more up-to-date. What I should have asked but didn't is whether anyone else will be looking after the business, while the man himself enjoys his retirement (as he has every right to, of course!).

I received the following response to a chainring enquiry.................On 14 October 2021 at 09:37 Hilary Stone <hilarystone@hilarystone.com> wrote: I am sorry that the item(s) you enquired about are no longer available. I am retiring and have sold almost all of my stock. I will be continuing with some items such as specialist chainrings 86mm, 122mm, 151mm and 116mm….................'

Hope he's enjoying his retirement!!

What are you after, Simon? Anything Particular?

I think I was after a 49T chainring to fit a 5 arm 144bcd crank for a fixed gear project. In the end I fitted a 53T ring with a 5 speed freewheel so I'm all sorted thanks,

However, I believe you are probably referring to 'simonineaston'?

Us Simons must stick together... ;-)
I was after a smaller chainring than is on my Stronglight discussed under a separate topic, which is 52t, 122mm bcd. I'd prefer 48t or 46t. I was rather keen too on the Royce cranks still advertised on the website, but was told firmly that they have gone :-( At least I now know.
I do wish people would try to keep on-line resources up-to-date. I appreciate of course that different folk have varying amounts of energy and time available and indeed, what seemed like a jolly good idea maybe ten years ago, might seem like a bit of a liability today. In which case, if I was in his shoes, I think I'd simply remove references to prices and 'sold' text and advise customers to 'ring to check availability'. Hey Ho.
