5 day tour of Belgium on a Brompton

Post by WillB »

I want to go on a 5 day tour from Brussels on my Brompton in mid-May. I intend to travel with minimal gear and only use my front bag. Can anybody suggest a route based on around 30 miles a day? I will be travelling to Brussels and back by Eurostar (which hopefully will still allow me to take my Brompton free). If necessary I can travel by train from my final destination to Brussels. Many thanks - William

For some headline cities and towns with history you could go: Brussels, Ghent, Bruges, Ypres, Lille? If you want countryside I found the South of Belguim good but hilly, e.g. Ardennes.
From Lille either return to Brussels or get the Eurostar from there.

You may already be aware of these routes, but if not they're worth a look ...

I have to jump in here only because it sounds so counterintuitive to just 'ride 30 miles a day', but in reality, that must be the nicest way to enjoy touring an interesting area rather than the usual blast out the miles kind of tour.

Good luck, and pleasant cycling. Somewhere along the way you are bound to find a cafe selling Belgian waffles, if so stop and enjoy. :D

30 miles is 50km. That is the average of our next 8 day tour starting next week. Slowly slowly my tour plans are like this. It's plenty far enough to enjoy yourself and allows for lots of sightseeing. Now, when I read comment like "I did xx km that day!" I think, who are you trying to impress? Probably yourself.

Also Belgium is a small country.
