Apple calendar - default travel method..

I'm off to my food bank volunteer session (half a metric ton of food products moved each session - and me a desk jockey for twenty years!) but my iPhone alert appears to think I walk, whereas I cycle. Do any of you iPhone users know how to change my default method of travel?

I've answered my own Q. the default travel method is an attribute of the map app and not the calendar. It's edited via route Settings>Maps>Preferred Type of Travel (choose from driving, walking, public tranport & cycling). Funnily enough, no options for private jet or Voi scooter...

Might be more widespread than Apple Calendar and "travel" but I find Apple has gone a "step too far" with trying to be clever about travel. You've spotted the inflexibility about travel method (e.g. cycle to local shops but you might not want to cycle 200 miles to London for the day and changing travel method is ... not quick and not suited to one-off changes).

But also it makes assumptions about where you are travelling from. It scans back through your other appointments to try and work out where you might be and sets travel from that location (even if you've e.g. returned home after the previous appointment) and no easy way to change that. I've found the only way is to disavel location services for Calendar and manually set the travel time and ignore how you are travelling.

For one-off changes press the blue button with the mode icon and the journey time and it will offer other modes of transport.

Where? No blue button or mode icon I can see on iPhone, nor Mac.

We are talking cross-purposes. I was thinking about Apple Calendar rather than directions in Apple Maps. Calendar most of the time will mark the travel time as using the transport method currently set in Apple Maps and if you create a new event and add travel time it takes the method from Maps.

That said it is a bit inconsistent as some travel times (in Apple Calendar) have no transport method included and others (for no apparent reason) have car selected even though Maps Route Planner is set to "cycle" (though I never use it for route planning anyway).
