Short touring shorts
Short touring shorts
Does anyone know of any short touring shorts?
That would be non-lycra, with legs that are well short of the knee when standing.
My mate has relatively short thighs, and everything he's been able to google is relatively long, and gets at his knee in a way he doesn't get on with.
I'm sure that shorts with legs only 6 inches from the crotch used to be commonplace 15 years back.

Re: Short touring shorts
Outdoor shorts have definitely returned to the ludicrous, 1950's knee length style. It is now, the fashion
Anyone growing up in the 1970's, 1980's, 1990's, even the first 10-15 yr's of the 21st century may be dismayed! I was looking for outdoor/walking shorts last week and everything was knee length.

Re: Short touring shorts
I know exactly how your mate feels. I hate that on knee feel. He needs to look at womens for a shorter leg. That’s where I buy mine.
Also some are sold with a “high waist “ which I find really comfortable.

Rohan Bags Shorts. 5" inside leg. Expensive (and not cycling shorts) but excellent for outdoor activities. Plenty of (zipped) pochets, etc.gbnz wrote: ↑21 Apr 2022, 9:22pm Outdoor shorts have definitely returned to the ludicrous, 1950's knee length style. It is now, the fashion

If you aren’t a 32” waist then don’t waste your time looking.
This very morning I took a bundle of Rohan trousers 32-34” waist to a charity shop. I’ve been hanging on to them for years just in case my waist retuned. . It ain’t going to happen.

Re: Short touring shorts
These are great
May contain lycra
Their apparently underpants
But needs must if long ride hot weather
Wind or temp drops temporarily front nether regions have the windstopper fabric
Can always wear nice shorts over them, esp if visiting pubs etc.

Re: Short touring shorts
The US brand Swrve makes several slightly differently styled shorts. I would suggest https://www.swrve.co.uk/collections/sho ... ser-short#. Inseam is 9". I think someone who does clothing alterations would be able to shorten them a bit if required.
I think a 6" inseam risks being too short for non-racing type, looser fit shorts. A short's fabric protects the skin of the inside of the thigh from rubbing against the saddle sides/tip, and even if the inseam is just long enough to prevent the saddle touching the skin, the loose fabric may bunch between the saddle tip and thigh and cause chafing. Longer length prevents bunching at that point. In the 1970s time triallers like Alf Engers wore shorts with very short inseams, but like modern lycra racing shorts they were skin tight, so there was no loose fabric between the inner thigh and saddle tip.

Yes indeed!
It seems impossible to get cycle touring shorts (i.e with pockets in sensible places) with a 28 - 30" waist.
Manufacturers seem to cater exclusively for fatties.
Re: Short touring shorts
Apologies for partial hijack but any recommendations for padded undershorts ; the type that you can wear under ‘ordinary’ shorts. TIA
Re: Short touring shorts
Several years ago, not wanting to look all lycra'y I got a pair of Endura Humvee shorts with the padded liners. The padding in the liners is thin. Plus even in UK I found the shorts+liner too hot. I soon gave-up on them. So a negative "recommendation".

I think Decathlon do several different types of padded under shorts.
