Short touring shorts
Re: Short touring shorts
Update on this, riding the 'bent today in my Stretch Bags Shorts...pjclinch wrote: ↑3 May 2022, 12:50pmRohan have been my tailor of choice for longer than I've had a 'bent and I've never noticed a problem with it.
The left hand rear pocket zip (arranged vertically when standing for easier access when wearing a rucksack) doesn't touch the seat at all, and the right hand rear has the zip-pull well clear of the seat as long as it's done up (i.e., with the puller pulled to the right, towards the hip).

Re: Short touring shorts
I'm fond of the Rapha Randonnee shorts. They come to above the knee for me (178cm) and are stretchy. When it's warm I'm able to roll them up and they're still comfy.
They are also very comfy and have two zipped pockets which is useful.

A lot of people like the Rapha shorts. You'd have to roll them up a long way for them to qualify as short though!

Just a comment on this thread.
Can't offer a solution, but my great issue with shorts and T shirts etc, that men's stuff these days are LONG.
Shorts aren't short, T shirts go down below the waist.
Why?
Lady's shorts and T shirts are SHORT.
Why?
Sexism?

male modesty?
fashion?
concern not to start a lustful stampede/breach of the peace?
wear what you want Mick - short shorts are available - in fact innocently searching for some cycling stuff made of the revered Pertex some time ago I came across an extensive range of Pertex shorts that I was lead to understand were particularly prized by some in the gay clubbing community.

Not sure whether these would be of interest – expect they're too long.

Re: Short touring shorts
In passing I popped into the St David's Foundation charity shop.
Found a nice pair of "New Look" shorts that tick all my boxes. Tailored in Bangladesh.
28" waist, two side pockets and a button closure rear pocket.
Leg finishes 3" above the knee, nice snug fit and the material has a nice texture.
The price? £ 4.00 and they are new; even have two spare buttons!
So one doesn't have to spend a fortune to find a good product.

Fashion (which may involve some degree of sexism).
I'm actually good with the longer shirts because I have a long trunk and short legs compared to average (quite a few brands I'm "M and a half" for tops, needing the M chest fit and the L length so I have a choice between too short or fits like a sack), but very much lament the lack of shorts that are, errrr, short.
Having been wearing Rohan Bags Shorts for decades now, an interesting variation in the range came in the 90s when they introduced a longer length version. I wasn't a fan, but work preferred me in them if it was a shorts day so I got a pair. They have exactly the same leg length as the "standard" version now. So, I either get vintage pairs off eBay or, for the newer Stretch version it's off to the local alteration service.
