Gunnislake
Gunnislake
Most of you know I live in Gunnislake, Cornwall. Have done since 1985.
Surfing through the news websites, I found this one from Plymouth Live.

Sums the place up quite well and written well too
As for the Rising Sun, we've been going there since the late 80s. We know George (ex RN) and Clive quite well, and Freya behind the bar. Me and Sailor will be in later today after a good walk.
The reporter climbed Stony Lane back to the station. It's a two chevron hill, narrow, quiet, and with stunning views.

We see lots cyclists passing through. Most are sport riders doing a circuit from Plymouth, quite a few on tour too. LEJOGers use the village but there are better routes out of Cornwall. It's a very rare occasion indeed for a cyclist to use Stony Lane, and the one's I have seen tend to be pushing!
Any road up, I thought you lovely folk would enjoy reading the report.

Re: Gunnislake
Thanks for the link, Mick. Just the job to read over a cuppa.
I parked my little Lupo in the station car park once, while I got the chuffa to Plymouth and thence to Brittany - and it was still there when I got back! Seemed like a nice place.

I've frequently told people not to park in Plymouth and pay exorbitant prices to park when it's free and safe in Gunnislake station carpark. Just take the wonderful train ride to Plymouth.

They could use your help with mechanical skills in the soapbox derby workshop. I turned my bike trailer into a soapbox for my grandson.

Just a little story .......
Me and Sailor (the doggie) walked to the White Hart yesterday noon-ish.
Somehow or another, his name tag became detached outside, and at about 4pm yesterday, a chap we know very well phoned up and asked, "Do you have Sailor with you?"
"Yes, he's here with me."
"Only, I've found his tag in the carpark at the WH."
"Ok, can you leave it in the Rising Sun next time you're in?"
"It's already behind the bar here now."
"Ok, it seems like me and Sailor are having another walk there!"
We arrived, and the staff couldn't find it. After my second pint was poured, the landlord came in, so I asked him.
He knew exactly where it was!
Me and Sailor left after my second pint, and followed the river back to Gunnislake and called in at the Rising Sun!
Any road up, it's nice to be known, have a history with people locally, and live in a wonderful friendly place.

Me and Sailor were in the Rising Sun for an hour today, mid walk. I had a couple of pints of Dartmoor Legend, and Sailor lay down on the bench next to me.
Chatted to Freya, and she said she was mis-quoted, and not quoted fully.
Good old journalists eh?

Re: Gunnislake
Sailor doesn't look at all phased by having to go to the pub twice in one day... the plot of land I spotted on Zoopla is described as Delaware Road, which of course means nothing to me!

Ah!
Delaware Road!

The big chimney on the left, was once the tallest chimney in Cornwall until the storms of 1989 when lightning struck it and the top half crashed to the ground.
It's locally known as Flashman's Chimney as Henry Flashman owns a scrapyard there. It's an old arsenic works.
As for the land for sale, it's further along. That's Dartmoor in the distance.

I often wonder if Delaware Road predates Delaware USA.
