Hi,
I have Shimano 105 disc brake callipers currently set up with the 105 drop bar shifters. However, I am putting a flat handlebar in, so does anyone know if there is a flat bar/mtb lever that uses the same size hose bolt as the 105 lever, so I can simply screw the existing hose straight into a flat bar lever and use the existing 105 caliper. I.e an SLX or XT lever.
Cheers
Hydraulic brake question
Re: Hydraulic brake question
Most Shimano brakes allow a mix of levers and calipers. Road shifters with MTB calipers is common as virtually all new road systems use flat mount calipers which are no go for post mount frames. The MTB caliper tends to be more common in post mount and they are two a penny used. It seems to be that people use the hose that comes with the lever as the fitting at the caliper is common to most.
Re: Hydraulic brake question
I'm running 7020 levers with SLX callipers on my commute bike because the frame is post mount and 105 R7000 is only flat mount so going the other way will work too. There are some that say you'll lose a little bit of feel with that combo but I haven't noticed no difference to my other bike which did had full R7000 brake set-up.
Re: Hydraulic brake question
Road ones generally seem to have a flange/washer built in. MTB ones typically do not.
Both seem to be M9. So probably work both ways. But unlikely you would get the dust cover back on the lever.
Your going to need some sort of bleed anyway. So for the sake of an olive and hose pin, You may as well just swap to the one the lever comes with. If your swapping to flat bars you’ll probably want to shortern the hoses a bit anyway.
At the caliper end I think they are all the same.

Re: Hydraulic brake question
The cylinder would have to be compatible as well, not just the hose union. Are they? Gears are a hotch-potch of incompatibility between MTB & road, so I wouldn't be too quick to assume that brakes are any better.J4mesjames wrote: ↑8 Jun 2022, 8:11pmdoes anyone know if there is a flat bar/mtb lever that uses the same size hose bolt as the 105 lever, so I can simply screw the existing hose straight into a flat bar lever and use the existing 105 caliper.
