I have a couple of Camelbak Podiums which must be over 10 years old and have been on extensive tours abroad. The nozzles (with locks) and lid screws still work perfectly. The newer design isn't as good imo but apparently make cleaning easier. Definitely the best bottles on the market.

That was worrying as I've a few of these that are getting close to needing replacing. A check on the Elite website shows they have a few models that still have flip covers and the Halfords website shows them stocking one called the Syssa.

IMHO the cheapest Halfords bottles at three quid are perfectly adequate and great value.
They also have the distinct advantage of being un branded.

+1 for Elite from Halfords. Got a couple on the go with teat covers and one not. Teat pulls out just fine.

Eyebrox's result screenshot showed ads for Halfords, not organic search results. Halfords obviously think Eyebrox is worth paying Google to advertise to, and you're not. :-) But Elite is the brand - it's not a Halfords own brand product. The Elite Fly is available from many outlets, some of them probably cheaper than Halfords.

I've always found the EU Bottle Bigmouth range to work fine. (EU Bottle is the name of the manufacturer.) You don't often see them sold as plain bottles, but UK custom bottle printer Wildoo uses EU Bottles, so there are a lot of them about, albeit with the names of clubs, brands and and charities printed on them. I have one from Cycling UK Wantage and one from Winchester CTC, amongst others. Better still Wildoo sells spares for them, so you can buy replacement lids or valves, or even (picking up on mjr's point) a protective cover for the spout.

No. Yeeugh. Also they never fit the cages properly and you can't squeeze them. Well, you can, but only once.

And consider cap size?
Avoid small neck..
When there are days like today you want barman to fill bottle with ice cubes then top it up he won't be happy putting in one cube at a time.
Might do it for one but not 2 or?

And drinks?
We have come a long way since the "50's", racing on RIBENA or for some, cold tea!
Recommend peppermint cordial; quite refreshing.

Bonne route!

+ 1. Have never used milk bottles, though generic 1 litre water/squash bottles are great. Though was challenged by an astonished cyclist this week, who seriously couldn't believe you could put water in a mineral water botte and then put in a bicycles, water bottle carrier

Suppose gaining the ability to work it out, has been of the benefits of four years studying at University

I've used the Kanteens above, the 18oz, does fit correctly in certain cages.

This one fit regular cages, haven't tried it.

There's not much you can do to get cleaning access to the inside of the nozzle assembly.

Someone (on here I think) posted a picture of a nozzle that had pulled out of the cap of an old well-used bottle, and it was coated in the sort of black gunge you find in drains, which is the reason why I've never put anything other than tapwater in mine.

"Thin Bleach" is wonderful for cleaning stuff out, unlike regular bleach it is easy to rinse off and leaves no taste or smell - so just perfect for sanitising food containers etc - I use it for keeping my home brew stuff clean.
