+1 for that, especially if you are not into stuff thats mainstream. I really like Scandanivian Heavy Metal which you will never hear on BBC but there is loads on Youtube. Quite like Amazon Music too
Isn't it great? It's never been easier, quicker or cheaper to discover new forms of entertainment or find more of the forms that you already enjoy.

I'm fondly imagining too that the toilets will be immaculate, there will be no queues for anything I want, and best of all, the gig will be all over by ten o'clock so I can return to my nearby hotel in time for a nice mug of cocoa before I snuggle up under my double thickness duvet and potter off to the land of nod - oh yes!!
Now that's Rock&Roll...
Any chance of fitting in a bike ride? We always enjoy a trip up the coast and a visit to Dyrehaven.

We know a couple of ladies who were regular attendees of Glasto in the early days, and they wore long dresses/skirts and no knickers.
They just stood still and had a pee when required.

No doubt they weren't the only ones.

I've been six times, four of them working with the tents and staging so there for 2 - 3 weeks at a time, plus another twice when I've been there working before and after but wasn't able to stay while it was on, last time was 1997, I'd love to go again.
Even 25 years ago there were complaints it'd become too mainstream, I imagine that's even more so. But it used to be possible to occupy every waking hour with something interesting without ever going near the two main stages, I'd expect there to still be a lot of that. I'd be surprised if anyone went and didn't have a memorable experience.

In 1997i went with three friends, two overseas students, on a road trip to old Sarum and a few other tourist /historical places but the Sunday we ended up at Reading music festival. Sunday being the more rock and metal day was chosen because the guy from Thailand was an Iron maiden fan and they were headlining. The a slot before was Marilyn Manson.

Walking from where at parked the car over a mile away we followed the crowd to the site past loads of people selling bottled water by the crate load. Some from a van parked on waste ground others just from the pavement. All charging a lot for water and cans of Pepsi.

Then I got inside the festival. That made the outside hawkers look cheap! But we had a bid time even though we got very dehydrated through the day. One of the best perfo was dog eat dog, or something like that. A rap rock crossover band iirc and they put on a great show. MM was good too, but iron maiden were a joke! They went on very late after a long sound check. When the roadie counted one two for the hundredth time the crowd interrupted with three! Then when the maiden turned up on stage their guitars kept failing one after the other and the PA too. Then due to licensing by the local council they reached the time that it all had to be turned off having done less than half a set. The guy we were with who was a big fan was very disappointed. He had never had the opportunity to see them live before so a pi$$ poor set was not great.

A few years later I got let into the staff entrance of Leeds fest, the other half of reading / Leeds Festival weekend. MM was number 2 or 3 with Eminem before or after.

I've no intention of going to a festival again like those. Glastonbury never interested me neither. I once looked into it and the cost was too high for me. Rip off commercialised crop. I can't think of a worse way to waste time and money.

I did Glastonbury for ten years straight (both for work and for pleasure), and always found it funny that all the Vegans and tree huggers who were raving about the experience, and had no idea that 2 days after the event ended it returned very efficiently to its intended purpose: a big old beef and dairy farm

Glastonbury has never interested me all though I was there, the place not the festival in 1985/6,at a friend's parent's place. The festival was on but it was of no interest to me/us.
My wife and daughter want to go at some point so I have registered my details and photo for 2023 to see if I can get tickets.I'm quite open to the idea now as I think you should do it at least once.Five days of camping, beer, music, drugs and pretending to be a tree-hugger sounds like fun :D

We watched some of it yesterday.I was unfortunate enough to catch someone called 'Megan Thee Stallion'.She's a Rapper apparently who spent her entire set with her 'dancers' Twerking her/their quite large ar$es at the audiences and 'singing' basically the same song over and over  I don't mind Rap and some of the early stuff was OK but the modern stuff is all guns/gangs/hoes/drugs

Sir Paul McCartney headlined and TBH he was terrible but in a different way.His voice, like many older singers, has gone.He should retire gracefully.Noel Gallaghers High Flying Birds were on before Macca and really they should've headlined.
If we get tickets and the headline acts aren't of interest I'll just mooch about the lesser known bands/stages I'm sure there'll be something of interest.

Among the "But I don't like Guinness" comments I found this interesting. Discomfort and inconvenience have never appealed to me but I can appreciate that others feel differently so thanks for this bit of insight

I go for the music and to hear the sort of stuff I like I go to the End of the Road Festival. Its where a lot of indie musicians go to hear interesting stuff. All the elements of Glasto are there on a much smaller scale. I have been to festivals in Europe too, Best kept Secret and Primavera Sound in Porto a couple of times. Getting behind the scenes can be interesting.

Rufus Wainwright is worth viewing on iBotherer - I thought he was excellent, and what happens from c48 mins is unforgettable :)

McCartney's voice went over a decade ago, but credit and much respect is due. It's a helluva way to sign off - and he played 2hrs 40 FGS!

High Flying Birds also good, I thought, but tbh I just like seeing stuff, musical, various, and I don't have the stomach for a big festival so I'm grateful for the BBC's excellent coverage altho' some of their younger presenters are rather wooden, and eclipsed by Jo W - sadly no Lauren L after her bereavement (I thought her tribute to her late mother on Twitter was wonderfully eloquent and heartfelt BTW)

It's also linked to Scientology: three of the directors of the company that runs the festival are known Scientologists. It's rumoured they bankroll small festivals like this as a future cash cow to fund their nefarious organisation. Many of the "indie" artists who play there are also Scientologists. See this article on the NME.

Can anything beat BBC Radio 3 in the woodworking shed whilst planing, chiselling or sanding the wooden parts? Of course not! Also, the drinks are cheap and the excellent cafe is just down the corridor. Best of all, no dancing loons, mud or madding crowd. And, as you may know, the music on Radio 3 is actually .... musical.

Cugel, a culture snob.

PS I'm sure it was an overloud Traffic concert at Lancaster Uni that made me the deaf-lugs I am now. ("Pardon!? I heard that!" - Uncle Mort).

Macca played a blinder, apparently - bless 'im. Good to hear.
