ITV4 TdF Coverage Sponsored by Bike Accident Claims Company

Post by simonhill »

Watching the TdF highlights last night. At the end of each advert break is a short piece from the company that is (part?) sponsoring the coverage.

It is Cycle-SOS, a bike accident claims company.

Hardly an encouragement to get on your bike and have an enjoyable ride.

Edit: wrong TV channel.

It shows how out of touch of real life advertising agency's are. Still it's an improvement on the erectile dysfunctional adverts from last year
And i doubt if watch sales increased significantly after they were heavily promoted in previous events. At the end of the day it all comes down to what an advertising agency thinks it can sell to a gullible promoter.
At the last count:- Peugeot 531 pro, Dawes Discovery Tandem, Dawes Kingpin X3, Raleigh 20 stowaway X2, 1965 Moulton deluxe, Falcon K2 MTB dropped bar tourer, Rudge Bi frame folder, Longstaff trike conversion on a Giant XTC 840 :D

It’s not on Channel 4, it’s on ITV4.

Cycle-SOS is the new solicitors firm being used by CyclingUK to manage accident claims from members.

Yeah, mixed feelings, but the racers crash often enough to deter people the same, don't they?

And why don't the far worse car crashes shown on TV deter motoring? Horrible video all over the news last night and this morning of a driver at Silverstone looking to be sliding along on his head before flipping over into a razor wire fence.

The answer might be that regular day to day motoring as much as common with Grand Prix racing as regular day to day cycling has with the TDF racing.

On the upside it may encourage anyone who is hit by a driver to think about launching a claim for damages.

It's what driving insurance is for, and it will push up any culpable driver's insurance..

I'm presuming that if they're now being used by cycling UK that they are ok at least

Try this year's TT races - 5 racers sadly died.

In any other sport or location it would have been banned long ago....?

There again yacht racing should have been banned after the 1979 fastnet disaster.... ???

Does anybody know if there's some reason for the change? Slater and Gordon is one of the biggest law companies in the country and Cycle-SOS seems tiny, going by the firm's website

Always amused at the Slater Gordon ads in Cycle magazine.

They used to show a man cycling, wearing a helmet with a strap, dangling loose enough to fit your clenched fist in. Latest advert has a young woman with a slightly less loose strap.

Interesting to know if they take poorly worn safety (?) equipment into consideration in the claim for an accident.

Some changes to yacht racing safety have been made. Recently the Vendée Arctic was abandoned because the forecast was very bad. Initial thoughts were to have competitors take shelter then resume but the winds were savage and many returned with tattered sails.
Without some risk racing would be less interesting.

The same thought occurred to me.

It is often said on this Forum, but not elsewhere in my experience, that cyclists wearing helmets or hi-vis put others off cycling by sending out the message that cycling is dodgy. But that isn't what puts people off. It is lots of traffic, and fast traffic, that puts them off, together with accounts of things having gone wrong. And a message that you need a solicitor to deal with your mishaps isn't going to encourage folk to dig out that disused bike.
