Ignoring the side issue of watching stuff for free, the Brits didn't do too bad when all is said and done. Geraint comfortably on the podium, Adam in 10th and young Tom taking a stage and 17th in his first TdF. Whilst our other young blood Fred was a fair bit adrift in the overall, he's been up there pretty much every day in the last week - he took 10th on the Champs and poor old Chris, some good performaces until taken out by Covid testing. Connor, Owain and Luke all made it to Paris too. And of course Ineos took the team classification by a goodly margin, so yeah, maybe we didn't dominate things as we have in the past but it wasn't so long ago that we'd be having street parties just to have a rider taking part let alone winning anything.

A good Tour for the Danes for sure but Tom & Fred have shown that we have new talent coming through, they will have learnt a lot this July, they will return more experienced, ready i'm sure to take on the mantle if the opportunity arises.

Good for you. Incredibly I don’t get those channels easily.

The kit for one costs less than two years full price GCN+, for both is less than four years. I bought my first one maybe 20 years ago and its replacement (HD upgrade) about 6 years ago.

Hoban continued on into the 70’s and wasn’t just an also-ran, he won 12 Tour stages over his career. Then came Paul Sherwen and Graham Jones in the late 70’s, then Sean Yates, Robert Millar in the 80’s. Chris Boardman in the 1990’s, then into the Noughties and the likes of Brad Wiggins, Geraint, Charly Wegalius and Chris Froome. Into the 2010’s and Brits came to dominate the race, winning 5 times in the 2010’s. It’s not uncommon for 10 or more Brits to be riding nowadays.

Yes, late nineties, early noughties was after the ACBB route that many Brits used to turn pro in Europe - the route that Yates, Roche, Sherwen, Jones, John Herety, Phil Anderson and others took, and before the WCPP started to have an effect on the road, which brought us G, Cav, the Yates brothers, Tao, Luke Rowe, Ben Swift, Ian Stannard and others.

G finishing third was a fantastic result if one considers he gave away 11 & 14 years respectively to the younger riders.on the podium. G has a year left on his IGD contract but will we see him next year on what could be a fare well tour or will he consider this year can't be bettered ?

G did say that he is happy to play the role of super domestique, but this year the team didn’t have anyone even as good as him, never mind anyone better. Perhaps Bernal will return to lead the team next year. Adam Yates was unwell towards the end of the Tour, so not able to ride show his best form.

Who would have predicted that a year ago?? Team management must be blummin glad they've got him, as things turned out!

In January everyone was drawing up lists of the GC riders that would keep G out of the Tour! Bernal, Carapaz, Porte, Martinez, Yates ...
